Is there a way to turn off discard option?

Is there a way to get my watch to automatically save workouts rather than asking whether I want to save them or discard? I have the vivoactive 3, and I keep losing workouts because the touchscreen is sweaty at the end of a workout and discards them. I don’t really understand what the purpose of this feature is to begin with.
  • I use the discard feature regularly as i've got an activity set up to just monitor my heart rate & broadcast it to my 520 while i'm out on the bike, once i've finished the ride i just discard the activity
  • I'd like to see the interface changed so that it's more difficult to discard an activity. Right now, two successive taps on the same spot on the lower 1/2 of the screen will discard an activity. I've done that inadvertently, in one case when my sweaty sleeve hit the touchscreen. Perhaps the second tap to discard could be moved to the top of the screen.

  • Yeahr, that is quite crazy!

You have to touch "Finish" on the bottom and "Store" on the top.
    Quite against intuition.
  • Count me in to people that had activities deleted without actual consent  I went on a 10 km cross-country skiing this morning and when I finished, I pressed the side button to pause/stop it and the watch vibrated to signal it was now paused. My watch was under my jacket. After I unhooked my skis and put them in the trunk of the car, I checked the activity and I was at the watch face :eek:Somehow I guess my jacket made the 'correct' input to discard the activity  Luckily for me I guess, I never trust just one device so I also had an app running on my phone so I can still import it into Garmin. Nevertheless, it shouldn't be that easy to discard an activity. On my app, I have to slide the Stop button up to stop. Garmin could do something similar to consent to a discard, not just one or two buttons pressed.

SylvainGa I agree. There needs to be a different way to discard an activity to prevent accidental deletions, but I have to ask. If you took the time to stop the activity, why did you wait until you removed your skis and put them in your trunk before going to save it? :D
  • Fair question. It was really cold (-15C) and still had my mittens strapped to my poles therefore couldn't interact with the screen. Only once I got to the car and removed them to put the poles and skis in the trunk did I tried to save it.
  • Suunto watches has autosave function (always save, dont ask). I rather save all activities, even mistake one than delete proper training.
I have to admit that garmin has weird ideas on their devices. Or maybe its only in vivoactive?
  • I always wait to save because if you do the watch records your heartrate drop in the period (1 minute?) immediately after the end of the activity. If you save immediately it doesn't capture that data.

I've accidentally deleted an activity in the past, so I'm now VERY careful to not let anything touch the watch during this period. A UI change to make it more difficult to discard an activity would eliminate this annoyance for me and save others from data loss in the future.

  • Yeah. I'm ALL-IN for an auto-save feature, even if it's not dis-ableable.
My Suunto Ambit 3 behaves like this (my primary cycling and skiing tracker, due to getting a weeks' worth of activity without recharge, easily), it just saves the activity, without asking.

I get that there's a "slight convenience" in being able to discard stuff, particularly when you're just calibrating the altimeter or something like that, but I'd sure trade that against having to simply go into Connect and delete a few "undesirable" activities, every so often.
  • when you're just calibrating the altimeter or something like that

Calibrating works before starting an activity!
Open the f.e. running app, wait for GPS and after 60 seconds it should be calibrated.

In the past, I needed the discard-functionality sometimes, to test custom developed datafields. But since I don´t develop for Connect IQ apps anymore, I don´t know a case where I ever needed that.
And if, I could still use the mobile application or website to delete it...
