Is there a way to turn off discard option?

Is there a way to get my watch to automatically save workouts rather than asking whether I want to save them or discard? I have the vivoactive 3, and I keep losing workouts because the touchscreen is sweaty at the end of a workout and discards them. I don’t really understand what the purpose of this feature is to begin with.
  • HerrRiebmann Sure, that's actually what I was referencing, in talking about using an activity to "calibrate".

    To be clear, I meant that you start an activity with GPS (say walking, with GPS enabled), and wait 30 seconds or so, once it finds the GPS, and then just end/cancel the activity. Since you were only using it to "calibrate", no sense in saving it, right?

    Nope, wrong ;)
    Open the app, wait for GPS, then wait for 30 seconds and close it. No need for starting the activity :cool:
  • Yeah, I see your point, thanks for the clarification, this will be handy the next time (having only been on Garmin for a few months, I've only done the calibration once or maybe twice now).

    I would say that my answer isn't really "wrong" however, it's just a bit more "lengthy" than it needs to be, but the outcome is the same, the calibration happens ;)???????
  • Count me in as another Vivoactive 3 owner who's astounded that after every single activity, I have to confirm that I don't want to just throw it away. It seems like it would be simple enough to have a system setting for this:

    * Always save activities
    * Always ask [the default, I guess]
    * Never save activities

    A customer service rep told me it's like this because some people want to always be able to discard their activities before uploading. Which is fine, but why should that be the default, and leave the rest of us with the ever-present possibility of losing data?
  • It happened again! I just finished my commute back home and stopped the watch, waiting the 2 minutes to get my recovery heart rate. In the mean time, I pulled off my long sleeve base layer and that was enough to hit the discard and yes sequence! This is ridiculous! It shouldn't be THAT easy to discard an activity :mad:

    Remove long sleeve base layer at 2 minute 1 second mark in the future. :D
  • How about if Garmin fixes this instead :p
  • no help.  no help at all

  • Firstly, I completely agree that the option to discard be limited to either the phone or computer app.  I've lost too many activities due to inadvertent contact by rain or wet clothing.  It's REALLY frustrating.

    I suspect the logic in the programming is that the software needs a trigger to initiate the save.  In some cases we have activities where we might want to stop, but not end the recording, so automatic saving whenever you press stop might not be ideal.  The second press to save is therefore necessary.  My suggestion is to keep the procedure flow as-is, but change the "save/discard" step to "END".  This way we can wait to see our recovery heart rate, and if there happens to be inadvertent contact it would only force the saving of the activity.  No data would ever be lost.

    Personally, I see no good reason to have a device based option to discard an activity.  If it is really needed, it should be a dedicated function, likely nested in the "History" area.  The idea being that you'd have to intentionally find and review the activity, then confirm you want to delete it.

    Just my 2 cents worth.  Hopefully the software folks read this.

    /rant off.

    Thanks for an otherwise great product!

  • Agree, it would be good if they could fix this. I have lost of few runs due to this flaw and quite often when running in the rain the screen will jump about.

    I think the problem is increased by the automatic pause which changes by itself to the end run screen which is usually when it deletes your run.

    I disabled the auto pause feature and rely on strava to remove pauses now.

    It would be good to be able to lock the touch screen with a long hold on the button or as suggested have a simple recycle bin option to allow recovery if this conflicts with existing settings.

    To be honest I read the perils of a touch screen for runners in reviews but effects very few runs. But the deal on the VA3M was to good compared to the forerunners. So for the deal cost still happy but would not recommend for pure runner. Don,t know if golfers have same issue in rain.

    I will follow these threads to see if they manage to solve it.
