I've been in touch with Garmin. My watch is being replaced.
Update:
Garmin responded and sent me postage to send the watch to their service center. A week after I sent my watch to Garmin I received a replacement unit. No hassle, no questions just plain good service…
It's a dodgy batch. Seems to happen between 4 and 7 months after purchase. Just contact Garmin if it's still in warranty and they replace it free of charge.
Even my Garmin 735x has same problem I don't remember I went to swim with it . It's not under warranty 
Same problem. The watch is less than a year old and the spot is growing.
Adding a picture of mine, mostly just to create a quasi-public record that this seems to be a relatively common problem and not due to abuse.
I contacted Garmin today. No response yet.
P.S. The only display spot is the one in the lower right below 04. The other spots are dust and reflections.
Same problem here. Contacted garmin few weeks ago, but no response.
The same happened to mine overnight! It was perfectly fine in the evening and had this area of 'dead pixels??' in the morning.
Such a shame for quite an expensive watch!
