Venu Sq 2 not calculating VO2 Max since v2.59

Since updating to system version 2.59 my Venu Sq 2 is no longer computing VO2 max scores when I do a running activity. VO2 max was updated for every running activity for six months before this update. I have done a factory reset and used a heart rate strap to try to get a VO2 max score to no avail. Is this a bug or is there something else I can try?

  • Same here exactly. After a long period vo2max is getting updated randomly, not following an activity.

  • VO2 max not updating  on Venu sq2 since November 23

  • Same problem here. How often is there a firmware update ?

  • All, this will need to be reviewed in detail to determine the root cause. Please reach out to your local Garmin Support team to review this.

  • almost all of us have communicated with support and given them logs and data. nothing has come of it. this is still a problem and support isn't communicating about it or isn't working on it.

  • I've raised 2 support tickets about this and Garmin didn't respond to either. I messaged them on twitter (X) and they didn't reply. I've chatted with support via live chat and they weren't technical enough to understand the issue and wouldn't raise it as a bug.

Really disappointed to see the lack of support and that Garmin would introduce a bug in a firmware release, breaking core functionality and refuse to respond to the issue.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Garmin Support. I'll reach out to you via email with the updates regarding the open ticket for your specific scenario.

  • I was able to review your chat interaction and noticed that you did not meet the requirements at the time you reported this to calculate a VO2 max reading. You were also comparing data to a forerunner watch. Which uses a different algorithm than the Venu Sq 2. I would highly suggest reviewing this FAQ, to ensure you meet all requirements  My Recorded Activity Did Not Update the VO2 Max Estimate.

If you meet all requirements and your VO2 max is still not updating, please reach out to your local Garmin Support team to review the newer activities.

  • Here's the absolute cop-out answer I just got from my support ticket.

    Hello Chris,

Our higher support team has reviewed your activities and notices that the VO2 max was changing but only by a fraction of a %. Therefore is was not updating it as it is not changing in the way it needs to for the value to come up from your current VO2 max.

if this is true. why did the same workout generate a score every time for six months and then never generates one since the update?

  • thanks for reviewing the chat, but I think you're overlooking the issues.

it's my understanding that after a qualifying activity the watch should show the VO2max score - which the Venu 2 sq does not.

Also, when you navigate to the Vo2max reading on the watch is asks you to start a 15min run activity, which you can start from the VO2max screen. However as everyone is stating, this activity is stopped by the watch after 10mins and no result is generated.

I was given some very strange reasons in the support message that you reviewed, which I explained here : https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/venu-sq-2/353957/venu-sq-2-not-calculating-vo2-max-since-v2-59/1714394#1714394

And I went out and recorded an activity specifically as instructed by garmin support with the strange requirement to have an uninterupted 10min of high heart rate run, where my heart rate must stay above the average heart rate for the whole recorded run - very strange explanation of the requirement, but I did I recorded a run that had 20min of high heart rate data as requested and it still didn't produce a result. Details shared here : https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/venu-sq-2/353957/venu-sq-2-not-calculating-vo2-max-since-v2-59/1714593#1714593

The watch had never produced a Vo2 score following an acitivity. After 1 month of zero VO2Max results, the garmin app now seems to randomly produce them every now and then, but not following a tracked activity, often on a day that no activites were recorded.
