Garmin venu 4 not recorded all my swim data today since the latest update? Any thoughts?

Wednesday swim I can see pace, strokes, swolf heart rate in all sections, lengths and rest etc

All I have today is a heart rate, my pace is off by a minute higher than usual and a calorie burn of 2.5K!

All that's changed is the software update.

Really disappointed in this watch, had a Venu 3 and only upgraded as that didn't record swim records!

  • Hi, sorry I don't have an answer for you. A question rather. I'm thinking to buy Venu 4 too. I do a lot of Pool Swims including following various workouts that I create in the Connect App. I might need more than just the two buttons to follow a created workout. Do you ever use the touchscreen while resting in the pool? Is it usable at all when wet? I know I should buy the 970 but I don't like it. Thank you!

  • Hello, if I am completely honest, if swimming is your main sport, I'd choose another watch. My Venu 3 was fine, thought this would be an upgrade. Since doing a software upgrade it has messed with all my stats. I swim for about an hour, watch was tracking an hour and half so my pace was well out. I'm sure it was missing laps too. Was told to switch auto  rest off (bit rubbish, watch has a function that can't be used!)  I was also sent tips on how to swim to make the watch work. Which again, not the best as I was doing all the 'tips' Had a week of trying to explain things to customer service, so now have a replacement watch coming. I wish I'd stuck with my old watch! Who knows, maybe I've just been unlucky, but I'm not holding my breath! To answer your question, you can use the touch screen when wet, again bit hit and miss but does work. Good luck!

  • Did you find any resolution to this? I've updated from the Venu 2 to the 4s. I've had it for a few weeks and swim tracking was working fairly well with the occasional missed lap, until yesterday when it stopped recording distance at all. Just like you it gave me a slow pace ( not sure how given no distance was recorded) and a massive calorie burn. The watch had auto updated the software the day before (annoyingly in the middle of the day, not 10 minutes after I had selected the option of not doing the update right now)

  • Sounds like the same issue. I had a lots of conversations with garmin support, they were giving me scripted things to try, really frustrating as they weren't listening to me, I knew it was the software and finally got the watch replaced. Was a bit of a drawn out process. So daft there's no way of rolling back the software. I was also enrolled in the beta programme, no idea how, but came out of that too. So far replacement watch has been ok, but dreading a software update! Good luck!

  • Hello,

I had a similar issue when I updated to 16.28 and swam a few hours later. Not sure if directly related or a coincidence.

The swimming activity was there on my watch with all the stats but it wouldn't transfer correctly to my phone.

On my phone it only showed "Untitled" activity.

    Solution:

After lots of troubleshooting, I copied the .FIT file from my watch on to my PC.

I then used this online tool https://www.fitfiletools.com/ to fix the corruption (I tried timestamps and it worked)

After that I manually uploaded the activity on the Garmin Connect Web and it worked correctly.

Since then I've swam twice more and no issues with the sync.

  • I had a similar issue after updating to 16.28 and swimming a few hours later.

I'm not sure if directly related or a coincidence.

The swimming activity was showing on my watch but on my phone it only showed "Untitled" with no stats.

I tried manually syncing and restarting both devices (phone & watch) but it didn't work.

    The solution:

I connected my watch to my PC and downloaded the .FIT file

I used an online tool (fit file tools - it seems i'm not allowed to post links) to fix the corrupt timestamps.

I didn't know if that was the issue but it's the first thing i tried and it worked

I then uploaded the .fit file on the Garmin Connect Web under Activities and after that it synced properly

Since then I've swam twice and no issues with any of the syncs so it might have been a one-off after the update.
