Schwinn IC4 Metrics Not Syncing to Venu 4 – Firmware Bug or Limitation?

Hi all,

I just set up a Schwinn IC4 spin bike and paired it with my Garmin Venu 4 via Settings > Connectivity > Sensors and Accessories. The devices show as connected, but no data (cadence, speed, distance, etc.) is transmitted from the bike to the watch. I’ve rebooted both devices and tried multiple configuration changes, but nothing resolves the issue. The connection appears active, yet the Indoor Bike activity records no metrics.

As a temporary workaround, I start a Cardio activity and enable Heart Rate Broadcast. That allows my HR to show on the IC4 console but I bought this watch expecting that Indoor Bike mode would pull in metrics from a connected smart bike, especially one as widely used as the IC4.

I’m aware of third-party solutions (e.g., QZ or Zwift) that can bridge this gap, but I don’t want to rely on paid subscriptions or external apps to log basic workout metrics. I’d also prefer not to manually import or edit data after every session.

This issue seems to have affected other Garmin watches in the past. For example, Fenix 8 series users reported a nearly identical pairing failure with the IC4, which was eventually fixed in firmware:

Can someone from Garmin confirm if this is a known bug or firmware limitation with the Venu 4? And if so, whether a fix is planned?

  • We're not currently seeing any other reports of this. If your Venu 4 is connected to your Schwinn IC4 but not displaying metrics, we recommend unpairing the two devices, then pairing them again (making sure to pair the smart bike as a Smart Trainer or by searching for all sensors). If you're still experiencing this issue afterward, please leave another comment so we can continue assisting.

  • Hey KC. Thanks for the response. I appreciate you taking the time to follow up.

Just to clarify, I have already tried unpairing and re-pairing the Schwinn IC4 with the Venu 4, both as a Smart Trainer and via the "Search All" option under Sensors & Accessories. While the devices show as connected, no workout metrics (such as cadence, speed, distance) are displayed or recorded in the Indoor Bike activity. I have tried this many, many times with different steps and variations hoping to find some type of work around. The only functionality I have been able to get working is the heart rate to show up on the bike console with the heart rate broadcast feature enabled on the Venu 4.

Since this issue has been observed with other Garmin models (for example, Fenix 8, Enduro 3, Venu 3) and resolved in some cases through firmware updates, I would like to kindly request that this be escalated to your engineering or development team for testing and verification on the Venu 4 firmware.

I am happy to provide any materials that would help with troubleshooting, including screenshots, video recordings of the pairing process, or logs.

Thanks again. I look forward to your guidance on next steps.
