Schwinn IC4 Metrics Not Syncing to Venu 4 – Firmware Bug or Limitation?

Hi all,

I just set up a Schwinn IC4 spin bike and paired it with my Garmin Venu 4 via Settings > Connectivity > Sensors and Accessories. The devices show as connected, but no data (cadence, speed, distance, etc.) is transmitted from the bike to the watch. I’ve rebooted both devices and tried multiple configuration changes, but nothing resolves the issue. The connection appears active, yet the Indoor Bike activity records no metrics.

As a temporary workaround, I start a Cardio activity and enable Heart Rate Broadcast. That allows my HR to show on the IC4 console but I bought this watch expecting that Indoor Bike mode would pull in metrics from a connected smart bike, especially one as widely used as the IC4.

I’m aware of third-party solutions (e.g., QZ or Zwift) that can bridge this gap, but I don’t want to rely on paid subscriptions or external apps to log basic workout metrics. I’d also prefer not to manually import or edit data after every session.

This issue seems to have affected other Garmin watches in the past. For example, Fenix 8 series users reported a nearly identical pairing failure with the IC4, which was eventually fixed in firmware:

Can someone from Garmin confirm if this is a known bug or firmware limitation with the Venu 4? And if so, whether a fix is planned?

    I have the Same Problem with my forerunner 965!

    bought it 2 years ago especially to Connect to my Schwinn ic8.

    it worked perfectly in the beginning.

    then, After a few months and After some Watches Updates the Connection was sometimes lost during a indoor bike activity.

    then After some other Updates I could Not Connect the ic8 to my forerunner anymore.

    I Suffer this problem over a year now.

    Never will Buy and Garmin again of this will Not be fixed!

    I'm a new Garmin Watch owner, Venue 4. I moved from Fitbit Sense 2. I considered the Apple Watch 11, but after reviews, decided on the Garmin. Support was a bit better for Fitibit in the beginning, but that changed after Google bought them. 

    I like many features of the watch, but issues like connectivity problems and other areas, such as with the Venue 4, two buttons could be a deal breaker, along with software issues. The Fitbit app was better, in my opinion, because it was easier to use and highlighted the important metrics. Garmin certainly provides much more information, and the lifestyle logging is a good start, but it feels incomplete, in my opinion. There are many areas where Garmin could better differentiate itself for mid-level athletes like me, who are interested in improving health as well as fitness. I understand that for more elite weekend warriors, athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts, the Garmin line excels. 

    The AI summary is a good idea, but doesn't provide any useful info. I was sick for a week, and it should have picked up, especially since I added to lifestyle logging. Missed opportunity. 

    Damn, I was hoping for so much more. Might consider trying out the Apple Watch, especially after they released their new health app.

    I have a similar problem trying to connect FR255 to Schwinn IC4. The watch is able to find it as IC bike, but attempts to connect to it always fails. My old FR645 worked perfectly for years before the watch itself died
