Please add feature to turn off auto (adaptive) brightness

I just received a Venu 4, and spent some time trying to find the option to turn off adaptive brightness (which I find very annoying) but couldn't find one.  I thought my watch had a problem, until I did some research and found out that there is no way to turn that off.  I've never seen any modern device lack the ability to turn this off.  Please Garmin, add this feature.  I want the same brightness no matter the ambient light, and with the Venu 4, adaptive brightness does not work well, as the screen gets way too dark to the point that I cannot easily read the screen.  Honestly I have yet to see a manufacturer implement this well, and prefer to turn it off completely in all devices I use.

Thank you

  • Same here... I just want Garmin to fix the auto-brightness behavior. It's terrible right now.

  • I've come across another scenario where auto brightness fails. With colder weather in my area I am now wearing longer sleeves that cover the watchface. Even in full daylight the watch "sees" darkness under my sleeve and thinks it should dim the screen. When I uncover the watch to look at the screen I see nothing. It takes way too long to adjust to the actual level of light around me.

This wouldn't be a problem if I had the option to set the brightness manually.

This will be the last Garmin device I buy if it doesn't get fixed. I'm already looking at alternative brands.

  • In have sent the watch back, luckily I found it too annoying within the 30 days return period..

  • New software version (15.16) available with no mention of adding manual control over auto brightness. I've updated my watch and see absolutely no improvement in its behavior.

Manual control of the automatic brightness should definitely be included in one of the next firmware updates. I am also eagerly waiting for it.

    Cambienlo.

  • For me the 15.16 update did fix my auto brightness issues. Prior to the update, I had similar problems as mentioned here. Although some seem to have more severe issues than I had. For me there were only problems during evening/night times. During these evening hours, the display would sometimes change up the brightness at random from dim to bright or bright to dim, even with no change of the surrounding light. It was very annoying, but the display was always readable. I didn't experience these issues in the last 4 days since I updated to 15.16. It's weird that, apparently, it's watch dependent whether the new update fixes it or not. Hopefully they implement other fixes soon...

  • Thanks for posting this, as it clearly shows some of the auto brightness issues.  In my case (and many others), the brightness drops so low at times in dimly lit rooms to make the watch unreadable.  I'm guessing that that Garmin never tested this feature with anyone over the age of 40!
