Please add feature to turn off auto (adaptive) brightness

I just received a Venu 4, and spent some time trying to find the option to turn off adaptive brightness (which I find very annoying) but couldn't find one.  I thought my watch had a problem, until I did some research and found out that there is no way to turn that off.  I've never seen any modern device lack the ability to turn this off.  Please Garmin, add this feature.  I want the same brightness no matter the ambient light, and with the Venu 4, adaptive brightness does not work well, as the screen gets way too dark to the point that I cannot easily read the screen.  Honestly I have yet to see a manufacturer implement this well, and prefer to turn it off completely in all devices I use.

Thank you

  • Hello Stew,                                                                                                                                                                                                                     I can only agree with and endorse your arguments. It also bothers me that I cannot turn off the dimming feature. In my opinion, it should be exactly the opposite. The darker it is, the brighter it should be; the brighter it is, the more it should adjust to the ambient light.Best solution: The user should be able to turn it on or off themselves or adjust it with a slider.

    Hallo Stew

  • You can always adjust the actual brightness levels, timeouts, and more here: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-2CF5620C-E585-4E0A-9CC3-9565533EEE4D/EN-US/GUID-A3426392-ACFC-465D-B773-263C6C92DCA3.html

As for disabling the ambient light/adaptive brightness feature, you can submit this as a feature request at Garmin.com/ideas directly to our team of innovators for future consideration.

  • Thank you.  I did submit the request via Garmin.com/ideas.  I do understand I can set other options as described in the link, but not sure what that has to do with the request.

  • Hallo Garmin-SP

    Hallo Stew

    Thank you for your response.
As a long-time Garmin user, I am well aware of the options for brightness settings.
Unfortunately, however, you did not answer the question.

Ultimately, it is about being able to deactivate the automatic dimming function or set it in such a way that in a dark environment the display does not dim but appears bright immediately. It makes absolutely no sense to dim the display in a dark environment and thus make it difficult to read, and to display it fully in a brighter environment; unless the user wants to set it that way.
Thank you for your efforts, and I wish you a pleasant day.

    Hallo Garmin-SP

    Hallo Stew

  • I believe he did answer the question, which is to submit a feature request, which I did.

Also, I think there are folks that do like it to automatically dim in dark environments, which is why it does that.  The issue is that I am not one of those folks, and think the feature is not well implemented.

  • Klabautermann, I would encourage you to submit a similar request, since I'd think that the more folks that do that, the greater chance that the request will be implemented.  Navigate to Garmin.com/ideas to submit request.

  • Thanks, Stew.

Whether or not there are people who like dimming in dark environments, Garmin should give the user the choice and include an option to enable or disable it. The dimming brightness can be controlled via the standard brightness control. I don't like the automatic dimming.

  • I agree with you, and also surprised that this was omitted.  But that is what the feature request form is for :)

  • I have also submitted a request (idea) for control over auto brightness. It is incredibly frustrating that they took this away.

For me, the adaptive brightness responds way too slowly to be useful. I am constantly waiting for the display to get bright enough to read.

Please Garmin, adaptive brightness doesn't work for everyone, give us the choice like we used to have!

  • I would suggest to call Garmin support, and keep pounding them about this. I just got off the phone with them, and was told that the more people that call and initiate a case, the higher the probability that this will get re-implemented.  It is completely ridiculous that this feature was eliminated, especially for a watch that costs this much!  Garmin's phone numbers are 913-397-8200 and 1-800-800-1020.
