Serial number sticker fell off - what is the hole where it was stuck? Is it ok to leave it exposed without the sticker?

The serial number came off yesterday and I noticed there is a hole underneath where it was.

What is this hole and is it Ok to leave the sticker off?

This has come up in other threads and the official Garmin response was the hole is not a problem. Rather than try to glue it back on, I'd just keep it somewhere safe, maybe stick it to a piece of paper with some Scotch tape or something.

I understand that - and purchased Ultra Thin Clear Double Sided Tape to glue this - one must do this carefully as to not create a vacuum in the hole as it is the altimeter that requires that the hole is not in a vacuum.
