Support told me to revoke the location permission of the garmin connect app, the issue is tied to that they claimed, and after doing this I've not had any crashes in about a week. Looking promising!…

I have opened a case this morning, but no response yet. Watch is freezing daily now and HRM sensor stops working. It is unusable at this stage.
Same issue for me, very annoying. Adding my card to Garmin Pay seems to possibly be related.
I am having the same issue, the watch regularly freezes and becomes unresponsive, then need to forcefully restart to get it functioning again.

I have to say that although I got a brand new watch replacement ( VIVOACTIVE-5 ) for my "already new watch" from GARMIN (thanks)... the watch straight out of the box still has the same issues as before; unfortunately... still a lot of "mini freezes" - the watch doesn't respond to screen-touch or buttons, while the led is on... This happens while at desk, or when I try to "wake" and check the time... no activities or anything... default watch-faces...
AOD : OFF
GESTURE : OFF
AUTOLOCK : OFF
BLUETOOTH : OFF
WIFI AUTO UPLOAD : OFF
The software is 8.28 - and the "good part" is that the watch responds in 30-60 seconds and doesn't require a forced-restart !!!
I didn't want to replace the watch as I told GARMIN support this looks like a software issue, but I've accepted just out of curiosity...
While is nice to have a new watch replacing my already new watch - this didn't solved the issue(s) and waited like 3 weeks... to get it back...
Hopefully these issues will be solved in a future software update...
This is not the Vivoactive 5 thread. But it is sad to see you are having issues. Given your situation. try jumping to the Beta version (Vivoactive 5 had a new beta release 15 hours ago), and check if that solves your issues. If not, you can file a bug report and those are directly seen by the team and could help them in solving the issues.
Do check the recommended answer in this thread and try that out too.

We've released a new beta software addressing this disruption. To install this software, enroll in the Beta software program (HERE), sync the watch, then go to Menu > System > Software Update > Check for Updates.
If you prefer not to enroll in Beta, feel free to wait until our Live software release is rolled out.
Please Note: The Beta SW will disable ECG until the next SW update is available.
I can confirm that beta version 9.18 fixes the problem with the watch crashing and draining the battery. Nothing bad has happened since I installed this version.
2 software update later I again have the same HR issues, it stopped reading my hear rate, turning Bluetooth on and off, hard reset, nothing helped! Fuming!
