Bluetooth connection keeps disconnecting

I've got my Venu 3 since yesterday. Before, I had Venu 2 and had no issues with that model. The new watch often loses bluetooth connection for some time, sometimes I need to re-pair with Garmin Connect.

Garmin Venu 3, sw version: 6.21
Phone: Huawei P30 Pro

I am aware that there are some issues with Huawei phone and Garmin watches bluetooth connectivity but I had no issues with Venu 2, so I am not sure if the issue is the phone or watch itself.

  • I have a Google pixel 7, and I have no issues with it. It's actually great. I can have my phone in another room and when the phone rings I could pick it up for my watch.

  • I’m glad it works for you. But there are numerous issues brought up here and elsewhere about connectivity.

Let me give Garmin the benefit of the doubt, and everything worked as expected when the product was launched. After various android and iOS updates things stopped working properly, and even after multiple updates since the initial release the problem still persists for many.  IMO this can indicate a few things, either it’s a hardware component that’s flawed and can’t deal with the changes made to iOS or Android, Garmin can’t keep up with the changes required in software or they have limited resources and are prioritizing new features and products.

  • I hope this is not the case and Garmin will still solve this problem. Bought the Venu 3 two months ago and had comm problems from the beginning (looses connection and can't reconnect, only way to resolve is to restart both watch and Android phone). My Venu 3 and the Connect app have the latest version software (as of 2/1/25). Should have researched the internet better before buying this watch.

  • I took the watch out of the box yesterday, it connected straight away to my phone but then the problems started. I deleted the watch and the Garmin Connect app. I reinstalled and it turns out that when pairing the Venu 3 and Huawei P30 Pro I immediately got a prompt saying that calling on the phone and voice assistant doesn't work with the Huawei P 30 Pro.

The disconnection problem is gone but so what if I can't even answer a call and have no notifications for incoming calls?

Is there any list of compatible phones with this watch?

On the Venu 2 I could get a call notification without any problem and here it promised the ability to talk through the watch. Should I replace my phone straight away?

It is good that in Europe there is a right to return the purchase up to 14 days after purchase without giving a reason.

  • I had the same thing as many others. On the Motorola G35 5G. Now I asked the topic whether it will work or not or whether it will do the same on the Redmi Note 13 4g. I don't believe that so many brands and models of phones would be unsuitable. Let Garmin give specific phone brands and models on which the Venu 3 will work without a problem, as well as calling through the watch. I also don't believe that it is a lack of software or firmware. Someone would have removed it a long time ago. I also think it will be a hardware Bluetooth module component. But I could be wrong.

  • It is surprising as I connected the watch to a Poco F1 phone which doesn't even have Google Play services, instead it has the Aurora Store and a Great system in the form of Lineage OS 21.

Of course at first Garmin Connect didn't want to install at all as it said my device was not compatible. After entering some other phone into the swap manager in the Aurora Store Garmin Connect installed and works flawlessly. No problems with bluetooth. Interesting that there are no Google services on the phone, then I can't use the voice assistant. On the other hand when it comes to calling from the watch and talking through the watch it all works seamlessly.

I find it funny that a much weaker phone handles the garmin venu 3 much better than a flagship from a few years ago and maybe the reason is that Americans don't like Huawei and make life difficult for Huawei users? It's a shame because I use my Huawei p30 Pro for running to take much better pictures than my phone which I use every day and which is stripped of all the stuff associated with Google which I in turn dislike.

One thing is for sure, this is not a hardware fault in the watch but an obvious software bug. I already wrote a couple of years ago on the occasion of the venu 2 that if I became some kind of programmer recruitment manager at Garmin I would sort out the software development for our watches within a couple of weeks.

  • Happens every 4 days or so. This is crazy!!!! Garmin get your act together. This watch sucks
