Venu 2s keeps switching itself off

I've had my Venu 2s for about 2 years. Over the past couple of weeks it has been turning itself off when I pressed the button to stop an activity. When I plugged it back in it would allow me to save the activity.

Now it has started randomly turning itself off in the middle of an activity.

I've read other posts on the Garmin forum and it seems to have maybe been caused by a software update and there doesn't seem to be a solution to it.

  • Same experiende here - when will we have a fix- SW Firmware update...

  • Same symptoms as my Venu 2S which is 2.75 years old. I read here that since it is out of warranty, the best Garmin can do is to offer a refurbished one for $140 USD.

I'm disappointed as I thought the Garmin watch would exceed my experience with Fitbits which lasts about 2 years. I mean amortizing the cost of the Garmin, it's about $10/month over its useful life. Seems silly to spend $300 or more every couple years for a fitness watch. Who knows, maybe none of them are built to last.

With that realization and after fudging with the 2S for the last several weeks to no avail, I bought an Amazfit Active 2 today for less than $100. It has comparable features and I won't feel as bad if it dies after 2.75 years (for less than $100!). I have been pleasantly surprised by it's design and usability so far. But once again, all of my historical fitness data will be locked up on a platform I am leaving.

  • Hi - well I think there is reason for optimism - I was contacted directly by the support team and was asked to upload the systemfiles for teoubleshooting of the software - I did that and now the Garmin team is looking at the systemic error - I am sure Garmin will fix this so we can all trust their software and equipment …

  • Thanks for letting us know. I'm a little skeptical Garmin will resolve this for device users out of warranty anyhow but keeping an open mind. I suspect that the issue may have something to do with the device's water resistance ability because my Garmin tends to crap out when I am out on a moderate walk or activity. I don't notice this much at home when i am sedentary. On top of that, I see this issue was repeatedly reported in this forum from at least 8 months ago!

  • Stesso problema presentatosi piu volte durante la registrazione di un'attività. Il dispositivo si spegne da solo e alla riaccensione la batteria risulta sempre oltre il 60%.

  • I've had the same problem for over 2 months. The watch turns off during activity or when trying to save. It also turns off when paying.
  • Commenting to follow because my watch is doing the same. Venu 2 -keeps turning off on 40/50/60% battery. Turns off during activity tracking etc. So annoying.

  • i had this too and dont feel overly satisfied with the solution, although you was offered a high payment than yourselve!

  • I also though of getting Amazfit cause the price to feature is great. It is like Venus have all the hardware needed to do offline map but they just will not add it until the 700$ and up model. I stuck with garmin because my country have the support where we can offset ard 10% of health insurance if we meet steps and HR requirements (basically execise and pay less insurance) and Garmin is 1 of the supported devices. so i bought Forerunner 165. At least under discount it is also around 150$ and is even cheaper than the 200$ for a refurbish set i was offered at Garmin service centre.

It is clearly a Batt degrade issue as if the shutdown occurs when you trigger a vibration and when you reboot you will see a low batt logo. They just refuse to offer battery replacement. Not very eco friendly.

I will feedback to the health promotion board in my country to add Zepp app in so i can have the option in the future.

  • I suppose I should be grateful for my 2S to have lasted 4 years. For the last 18 months it has been shutting down unexpectently when charged. Reporting itself as having no battery power until it boots up to indicate there is plenty. If they wanted to fix this they could ealily invested  in a bug fix. It seems evident here Garmin don't care about customer loyalty. What they don't factor in is many of us purchase their high-end products also. I will now prioritise other products before Garmin. After sales services really matter even though it may not show up on the spreadsheet. What we are seeing is poor leadership from the top.
