Venu 2s keeps switching itself off

I've had my Venu 2s for about 2 years. Over the past couple of weeks it has been turning itself off when I pressed the button to stop an activity. When I plugged it back in it would allow me to save the activity.

Now it has started randomly turning itself off in the middle of an activity.

I've read other posts on the Garmin forum and it seems to have maybe been caused by a software update and there doesn't seem to be a solution to it.

  • I am having the same issue. I started having the issue after the last software update.

  • Mine just started doing this this morning. Turned off during automatic recording of a walk. Turned it back on and the low batter icon came on. Plugged it in when I got home and it was at 68%. Went for a run later and it turned off 2 rounds into a 3 round run and wouldn't turn on for a while. A QR code thing came up, then something about firmware, then it turned off. When I tried again, it resumed tracking the activity then shut down again. Came online to see it is a worryingly common problem that's not being acknowledged. What are my options here?

Edit: I tried to reproduce the QR code thing, and it seems I managed to make my way to the testing area. That line can be disregarded, but the remainder stands.

  • Update: I contacted Garmin Support and they have offered me a Venu 2s 'recertified device' for £128 and I would have to send the defective one to them. Not sure that's a great deal since you can buy reconditioned Garmins with the same spec for that price anyway without sending anything back.

And what are they planning to do with my defective Garmin? Sell that on as a recertified device?!

  • Yeah, that doesn't seem to be a solution at all. Why should you have to buy a 'new' Venu 2s if it was a problem introduced with a firmware update? What assurances do you have that the replacement wouldn't exhibit the same issues, and if it does, do you get yet another 'new' one?

I'd just love for them to acknowledge the issue and send out a fix. I wasn't planning on parting with my Venu 2s anytime soon. It was basically perfect before this issue popped up.

  • Same issue! Came here to see if there was any solution anyone had found. Happened 3 times already. Yesterday being the most recent, went for a run, and as usual went to pause activity at a traffic light, but couldn’t get it to turn back on until after I came back home and plugged it into the charger (turned back immediately and read 86% battery). So frustrating to have a fully charged watch just turn off mid activity - what are the options here?

  • Came here looking for a solution to the same issue. It’s now happened 3 times - anytime I try to pause an activity, despite full charge before heading out the door. I wasn’t looking for a new watch anytime soon, I’d love a solution that isn’t ‘buy a new watch’
