When using the Walking mode, my HR sensor does not work, shows my HR as low, or no data, when really my HR is quite high.

I have a 2 year old Venu 2. When using the Walking mode, my HR sensor does not work; it shows my HR in the zone 1 range or as no data, when really my HR is quite high, zone 4. However, when I stop the activity and immediately start a Bike activity, my heart rate monitor captures a more realistic zone 4 heart rate right away.  I have tried a hard reset, that did not work. I have tried turning on and off the HR broadcast, that did not work. I have tried both tightening my watch band and moving my watch band, but neither worked. My software auto updates and shows the latest software version. So, I have been recording all of my walking as biking so that I can capture my HR, which is super annoying. I contacted customer support, they recommended I spend $150 on a replacement refurbished Venu 2 because I am outside the warranty period, but I am not satisfied with that option. I know there have been software issues with HRM for this watch in the past, I am wondering if anyone has had this similar issue and has found a fix? Has anyone tried downloading apps / widgets / data fields as a work around to the native app HRM issues, and if so, did any of them work? Thanks

Makes me think that either during a bike ride your wrist is in a better position to record your heart rate or there is something wrong with the walking activity profile.

You said hard reset but did you try a reset to default settings? If not, might be worth a try.

Venu 2 Series Owner's Manual - Restoring All Default Settings

To reset all of the watch settings to the factory default values and delete all user-entered information and activity history, select Delete Data and Reset Settings.

If nothing works and you don't want a new watch, you could use an external heart rate monitor.

  • Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Except, nothing has changed other than my activity choice on the Garmin. I am still physically walking, I just switched from the Walk activity to the Bike activity, and the HRM works. Sorry, I wasn't super clear in my initial comment.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. For now, I would rather try and figure out a solution or workaround with the watch without having to purchase external monitors.

  • I have this exact same problem!

Sometimes it's when I walk on the treadmill alone, sometimes when I record strength activity first and then go to treadmill. I know my heart rate is much higher than it shows. For example during strength it will be 135, then I switch activity and it goes down to 85. Sometimes if I remove my watch and put it back on it will help, sometimes I have to stop and restart the activity. Sometimes switching arms will do it. BUT if I see it and just stop the activity, even if I keep moving exactly the same way, the HRM  will suddenly increase to the correct heart rate. Something definitely faulty!

It's really annoying to go 15 minutes only to realise it is only recording like I'm cooking dinner or something.
