Battery drain

For a few weeks(I think 3/4) I am experiencing an issue with the battery so it drains instantly from about 20% to 0 and watch shuts down due to critical battery level. I have tried to reset my watch but it happened again.

It looks like battery percentage drops slowly from 100% to let's say 30% but then it speeds up and from 20 to 0 drops within less then 5 minutes.
I am not sure if it is maybe the issue with current battery percentage indicator, battery is broken or is it an issue with the recent software.

The watch battery even with this issue can last for about a week(with activities) but it is too much unreliable leaving home with 30% of battery and it dies during a training.

Is there anyone who experienced same issues with their watch or should I assume that its battery is damaged and I should claim a warranty for a replacement.

  • Hi Guys,

I had been contacted by support like others of you, and they analysed for a long time log from my Venu... unfortunately without any solution. My Venu continues to brutally shut down when the battery is around 40%; the total battery duration seems fine yet, it takes 4/5 days to drain until 45/40% and then shut down suddenly. so for me isn't a battery drain issue but an incorrect calibration of Venu.

Developers seem to haven't solution to recalibrate the battery.

Today I received 13.11beta firmware in pre-rollout (this week already received 13.09b); no reference to the issue on the release notes. But this is the last chance for my Venu, then I will send it to support and I hope he will replace the unit under warranty already.

  • The only solution ive been given is to turn off Pulse Ox, but that means handicapping my watch... havent been impressed with the poor communication on this issue.

  • Your report was different in comparison to most on this thread. Pulse ox enabled overnight will drain battery quicker as compared to pulse ox being disabled. This is something that is mentioned on the watch, when you enable this feature. You can keep the Pulse Ox enabled, but it will drain battery quicker.

  • Thanks for the comment Inder, my concern is that I only have the drain issue in the last 20% overnight.  At 80% before sleep im not waking up to 60% for example.  But at 20% overnight, im waking up to a dead watch...

  • Hey, I'm in NZ with the same issue as well. Do you know what is the Garmin support option here? I emailed Australia support but never heard back. Can't find a NZ contact

  • 1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. New Zealand

I am still experiencing the same issue. Watch goes to about 30-25% and then just drops to 0% and shuts down. sw v12.13

  • Same problem. All of a sudden watch started to turn off randomly. When I connected it, it would still have 60 or 40% battery. It has become worse: now it turns off 10 minutes after disconnecting from power, and still shows 100%.

it does seem like a battery problem, but it happened too fast, and deteriorated very rapidly. I have tried resetting the watch, turning all sensors off, etc, and it has only gotten worse.

If there weren't so many people with apparently the same problem, I would accept it is a hardware problem, but it seems software more and more...
