Battery drain

For a few weeks(I think 3/4) I am experiencing an issue with the battery so it drains instantly from about 20% to 0 and watch shuts down due to critical battery level. I have tried to reset my watch but it happened again.

It looks like battery percentage drops slowly from 100% to let's say 30% but then it speeds up and from 20 to 0 drops within less then 5 minutes.
I am not sure if it is maybe the issue with current battery percentage indicator, battery is broken or is it an issue with the recent software.

The watch battery even with this issue can last for about a week(with activities) but it is too much unreliable leaving home with 30% of battery and it dies during a training.

Is there anyone who experienced same issues with their watch or should I assume that its battery is damaged and I should claim a warranty for a replacement.

  • Running version 12.13, my Venu 2 went from 32% to 9% in smartwatch mode in less than an hour. So the new software does *not* fix the issue.

  • I experienced the same with my Venu 2 and 12.13 beta software 10/15 days ago; at the beginning, the battery drain was also out of activity tracking. one week ago I disabled the jet lag survey, and the battery drain was only 0.4/0.6% per hour. But activity tracking is a disaster:

    - 10 days ago, on ski tracking, with GPS enabled, the battery went down from 75% to 0% in 3h

    - on swim tracking, without GPS, in 1h/1h30m workout, battery loss more than 40%

before upgrade, I was able to track 2/3 of swim workouts in a week, without charging the battery; the average for this kind of workout was 5/7% per hour.

please Garmin Connect Web Garmin Developer Virtual Conference 2020 analyze this issue and fix it soon.

    thanks

  • My Venu2 is more or less OK with the battery now. It last about a week with some GPS (about 3 hrs) and Gym activities (about 2 hrs). No big drains while running. What I have done is checked and updated several times the  Venu config after upgrading the firmware. It seemed to me it was somehow different to my settings after the upload…

  • Please could you explain what you mean by "checked and updated several times the  Venu config"? I don't see any settings in the menus on my watch that are different.

    Thanks!

  • The most evident was the screen shinning on even on no disturb mode when at night. I do not know how much that affected but I had to reset and update several times till the Venu worked as I wanted so, I assumed, there were some other settings differing.

  • My problem just got worse...

Instead of shutting down in the middle of a run (while claiming to still have 60% of battery), now it just shuts down when starting a run with gps enabled. Shutdown also happens when I do a software update check using WiFi.

It did a factory reset today and used the default settings. The issue remains te same. A month or two ago, the watch was working perfectly fine, so I doubt this is a hardware issue...

Also when plugging it in to charge, it stated 60% from te start. The issue also is there when using 100% charge.

Where should I contact them to get the best response, as this watch is totally useless at the moment...

  • Try visiting the Garmin support website and using the chat option. If it’s not enabled at your location, go to the US site.

  • I have this same issue. Am on latest fw 12.13, and the battery suddenly drops to 0% after draining to 30-20% and the watch shuts down shortly after. I got the watch about 1.5 years ago, so this doesn't seem to be normal, for it to be degraded to this after only that amount of time used...

  • I even downgraded the software to version 11.16 using this image https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=15675.

The problem remains the same. So it must be the sensor firmware or something like that, I hope they get it fixed soon.

  • Hi ivars, could be expected degradation of the battery, even if 1.5 years is a bit too little for a good product and expensive like Garmin is; however, also mine is 1.5 years old, but I expect that the battery drains faster at all and not fall down from 40% to 0% in a flash.

should be something to recalibrate the battery
