Receiving All Notifications Instead of Just Calls and Texts (IOS)

Hey There:

I'm a new Venu2 owner, transitioning from a Charge 4, which I found to be unusable to view in the sun. I like the watch so far, but can't figure out how to receive only calls and texts. I'm in IOS, so realize I can't configure by app, but have changed the notifications settings both in the watch and through the Garmin Connect app to only Calls and Texts, as opposed to all. I still get all notifications though, and I don't want to get notified of the tons of emails I receive on my watch (fine for my phone).

I've tried unpairing and pairing my watch again, reinstalling garmin connect, and multiple restarts of both my phone and Venu2, but none seem to do the track. The settings are correct in both Garmin Connect and the Venu2, but I still get all notifications. Does anyone have an idea how to fix? To be clear I'm set in the right places, in the Connect app, in the "Smart Notifications" section, I have both "General Use" and During an Activity" set to "Calls and Texts Only". On my watch, under "Notifications", it also says "Calls and Texts" under both the "During Activity" and "Not During Activity" sections.

  • Hope this helps (?):

Notifications are managed from the iOS notification settings on the phone.

    1. From the iPhone select Settings.

    2. Select Notifications.

    3. From the top of the screen make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked. This is a setting required by Apple to display notifications on a Bluetooth paired device.

    4. A little farther down the screen under NOTIFICATION STYLE select the app you want to configure. You will need to repeat the following for each individual app to either allow or disable notifications from the app

      • To SEE NOTIFICATIONS for a specific app on your Garmin device:

        1. Allow Notifications should be toggled on.

        2. Under ALERTS, make sure there is a checkmark under Notification Center.

        3. At the bottom, under OPTIONS or LOCK SCREEN APPEARANCE, you must have Show Previews set to either Always or When Unlocked. This is a setting required by Apple to display notifications on a Bluetooth paired device.

  • Thanks, but these directions are for generic notification settings in IOS. I have this already setup the way I want in IOS, but there is an option in Garmin to only get notifications for calls and texts, but I continue to get all my notifications on my garmin, when I should not be. The directions you put are for turning off app notifications on your phone, which I want to continue to receive on my phone.

  • Sorry, that was an oversight. Smiley

  • I just tested all settings and verified that it is the same for me. Regardless of what my notification settings are, including turning them off altogether on my Venu 2, I still get all notification on my phone. Can this problem really be happening to everyone who has a Venu 2 and IOS (must be a lot of people), or is this working for anyone with this combination? This is really disappointing if it can't be fixed.

Hard to tell. I'm on Android so I can't confirm the issue.

Try to bump that thread in iOS forum and contact Garmin support.

  •  - I'm sorry for this frustration! To clarify, are you seeing all of these notifications pop up on your watch? Or are are you seeing them increase in number from your notification widget? The Notification settings on the Venu 2 itself only control the pop-up alerts that occur when a notification is received and do not prevent the notification from being sent to the device's Notifications widget.

  • I am getting every single notification pop up on my watch regardless of if I have notifications turned on or off. The only way I can seem to not get notifications, is if I turn off notifications from going to the notification center on my iphone, but I don't want that, nor is that how it should work.

At this point, I have no idea what the smart notifications settings on my Venu 2 even does, as it doesn't matter what the setting is. I get all notifications on my iphone regardless.

  • Please look out for a personal message from me. We will continue to discuss this report, but I will need to gather some more information from you.

  • Did this get solved

this is the exact issue I am having, it was working correctly for awhile and then just stopped recently and I am receiving every single notification
