Venu 2 NAVIGATE Feature - Seriously?

Hi all,

I realize, that navigation functionality is not meant to be the strongsuite of the VENU 2.

But by all means, the "NAVIGATE" app that comes with the VENU 2 is hard to be taken seriously....

After starting the NAVIGATE app and waiting for a little eternity for the VENU 2 to find a GPS fix (see thread about issue here) you end up at this screen:

NAVIGATE icons

After adjusting your viewing distance and eyes have refucused, this reminds of RPGs that ran on Windows PDAs and Nintendo Gameboys in the early 90ies. Which is kind of cute for a moment....  but then -  seriously Garmin - what is this?

The VENU 2 is my first Garmin, but this looks like a vintage app from the very first Fenix....?

Those extremly small and unappealing icons give you instant eye cancer!

And most of the the menu screen is just empty and black....?

The VENU 2 has such a great display, why not make use of it?

Sorry, but that's just lazy....

  • The empty blackness saves battery, and so I believe it is by design. For a true navigation watch, you have to spring for a higher end one like the FR 945 or Fenix series. No contour maps on here without third party apps. It is kept lighter weight due to lack of needing high data capacity, and the battery lasts longer as a result. It is a lifestyle watch, after all.

  • Interesting thought, but imho this screen is not exactly displayed / shown very long compared to other menus/screens, so this wont make a difference.

At least some slightly bigger, prettier icons and a menu similar to the "Activities" menu would have been nice.

And as you say, it is a life style watch, so why not have some style... ?
