FEATURE REQUEST: "Resume Later"

Hi Garmin team!

Can you please implement the "Resume Later" functionality in the VENU 2.

It is currently not possible to pause an activity for a longer break, very liklely to happen during hikes or full day bike trips.

This feature is currently only available on Garmin's higher end watches, but I doubt that pro athletes will stop for a one hour lunch break and enjoy the view during their triathlon training.... but the more casual VENU 2 user might ;)

Would be great to get some feedback form Garmin folks here please.

Thanks!

  • Venu 2 does have an Auto Pause

    Using Auto Pause®
You can use the Auto Pause feature to pause the timer automatically when you stop moving or when your pace or speed drops below a specified value. This feature is helpful if your activity includes stop lights or other places where you need to slow down or stop.
NOTE: The device does not record activity data while the timer is stopped or paused.
    1
    Hold .
    2
    Select > Activities & Apps.
    3
    Select an activity.
NOTE: This feature is not available for all activities.
    4
    Select the activity settings.
    5
    Select Auto Pause.
    6
    Select an option:
NOTE: Not all options are available for all activities.

To pause the timer automatically when you stop moving, select When Stopped.

To pause the timer automatically when your pace drops below a specified value, select Pace.

To pause the timer automatically when your speed drops below a specified value, select Speed.

  • Venu 2 does have an Auto Pause

This may be the best option.  For what Garmin designed the resume later feature for and on how the vast majority of Venu 2 users will be using their watches, I'd be very surprised if it was implemented.  You never know though and it doesn't hurt to submit a request.

  • I agree it can't hurt. And I also agree I would be surprised Slight smile. The fact that they have this resume feature on high end watches and not on the Venu 2 means they want it this way. Plus the Venu 2 implementation is consistent with competitor products at the same price point.

  • There is a AUTO PAUSE function available, at least for some activities according to the manual....

  •  sorry, but your argumentation why this feature shpould not be available in the VENU 2 is a complete mystery to me.... and i also dont understand, why everyone seems to "obsess" about theis 1-hour-lunch-break... this was just one example really...

anyways, i would very much like to have the ability to pause and resume activities manually and for a duration of time that i choose. not being able to do so will def. not make me buy a higher, more expensive model, but make me switch to competiotor devices, which have this funtionality. i would prefer to stick to the VENU 2 and hope, that Garmin will integrate this with a software update!

i have already suggested this idea HERE and I encourage everyone, who also wants this, to do the same!

  • not being able to do so will def. not make me buy a higher, more expensive model, but make me switch to competiotor devices,

Which competitors have this? Samsung does not.

You won't buy a higher end Garmin watch with the feature, but you'll buy a competitors watch if you don't get your way?  OK.  That's your choice.

and i also dont understand, why everyone seems to "obsess" about theis 1-hour-lunch-break..

Maybe it's because you said in your original post:

but I doubt that pro athletes will stop for a one hour lunch break and enjoy the view during their triathlon training.... but the more casual VENU 2 user might ;)

We're just commenting on what you said.

your argumentation why this feature shpould not be available in the VENU 2 is a complete mystery to me.

Your comment is a mystery to me.  Why don't you quote me on where I said it shouldn't be added. I explained the purpose of the feature and why it's found on higher end devices. I mentioned some options to use if it's not implemented and I provided you a link to request the feature as you must have found helpful because you posted it again.  In my opinion Garmin won't add it, but that's not even close to saying they shouldn't as you falsely claimed I stated.

  • As I tried to explain, the 1-hour-lunch-brake thing was just one example... there might be many other reasons or situations, where some users might want to pause an activity longer than 15 mintes...

if someone cannot realte to this, that's fine. But apparently there or quite a view other users, that feel the same.

The more speak up and sugegst this idea via this link  - https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/ - the more likely it might be that Garmin reconsiders....

(...i feel this is just one of many "artificial limitations" that hold back the VENU2 and while the concept/strategy behind this development decisions is clear,  it is still disapointing for many. the VENU 2 could be much more than a fitnesstracker and it it sure does cost more than an average fitness tracker. but it was castrated by development decisions. but that's a different discussion ....)

  • Yes please add it!

To me it would be useful when doing biking or hiking with my family. With the kids, we stop more often but I would still love to get one single gps track at the end rather than having multiple small tracks. Yes, for metrics (speed, HR, etc) it's not ideal, but for this situation, I don't care about the performance but more about the gps track. This is why this feature should be there on any "casual user" watch as we don't always use the watch for performance events.
