For anyone having trouble getting the Venu 2 to show up on a Windows 10 PC, I thought I'd make a brief post because I had to search for a while to find this information.
The Venu 2 (and most new Garmin watches) uses Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) for its USB connection to PCs (vs the older USB mass storage protocol). In my case, the plugging the Venu 2 into the PC via a USB cable didnt produce any prompts about loading drivers etc. (And I already had the MTP drivers installed).
With the Venu 2 plugged in to your PC -
- Hold down the Windows key and press X.
- Choose Device Manager.
- Go down the list of devices and expand Portable Devices.
- You should see an Unknown device with an exclamation mark
- Right-click this item and select Update Driver.
- Choose “Browse my computer for driver software”.
- On the “Browse for driver software on your computer” window, select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.”
- On the “Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware” screen, select MTP USB Device and click Next.
- The install wizard should complete the setup.
After the device driver is updated, the Venu 2 should mount on the PC like an external drive as usual.
