Google Assistant not working after latest update

Hi! SInce the 11.16 update, Google Assistant doesn't seem to work anymore on the watch. It manages to initiate Google Assistant on the phone, it lights up and understands what I'm saying, but it doesn't relay it back to the watch. It stays on "Connecting to Voice Assistant" for 10 seconds, until it says in red "Could not connect to voice assistant."

I have enabled all appropriate settings and permissions, including Assistant on Lock Screen. It worked fine with 10.18 and I think 11.14 SW.

  • Still not working, 15.20 on watch, OnePlus 8 with Android 13. Even restored watch to factory default. No luck. All I see is assistant overlay showing up on my phone when triggering Assistant with watch. Then I get this message, then nothing happens. 

  • Just installed 15.20, aligned the watch with Garmin Express, rebooted phone (Oneplus 10T with Android 13.1) & watch, google assistant still not working.
    I see only Google assistant starting on the phone, but the watch says it can't connect to the assistant

  • I'm on 15.20 as well and still not working.

  • Stil not working OnePlus Nord 3 and Bèta 15.20.Did a lot of testing, removing other Bluetooth connections, Connect cache clear, remove watch BT connection, rebooting Venu 2+ and Phone, reconnect BT...with a previous Bèta it has worked for about 5 min. I can 't get it to work again . (1. Yes,  2.Yes, 3.Belgium)

    Mine works perfectly now on 15.20, even after connecting to android auto. I am not sure if google fixed something or garmin or both but it does work now.

    FYI, I am using Pixel 7 with Android 14 beta.

  • I'm rather sure that the issue is most likely Android 13 and OnePlus combination or just Android 13. This is how it looks like based on most of the comments here. Congrats BTW :)

  • Could be...that sucks. Probably something with OnePlus yes... as I had issues in Android 13 so I tried 14 beta and issue persisted... I contacted google and provided some data and debugs to them. But it is only now with 15.20 that it works...

  • Also on 15.20, but does not work after re-connecting and other stuff. Kinda gave up already on this. Don't really think Garmin will ever fix this considering the fact that they don't even care to provide some updates on this issue. I can't believe they had not an opportunity to get some "broken" phone and properly investigate it for 9 months. I guess they were busy advertising Venu 3 Plus which also "supports" Google Assistant ;)

    I am sorry to hear this is still not fixed for everyone. We'd like to gather additional information to report this again to our engineers:

    • Are you receiving "Connecting to Voice Assistant" or "Could not connect to voice assistant." errors?
    • Have you tried removing and re-adding the device to the Garmin Connect app?
    • What is the software version on your watch?
    • Do you mind if we email you?
