S2 not uploading to Garmin connect

Scales have worked fine up until today.

I've reset and checked wifi details, tested the connection of the scales to the wifi from the Garmin connect app; that seemed ok but still fails to upload to Garmin connect.

I then hard reset, connected to the wifi again and once again, after a weight measurement it fails to upload. I then hard reset again and tried on a different wifi network, hot spotting with my phone and the same thing occurs.

Any ideas?

  • Garmin in the Netherlands says that it is not possible to connect trough a hotspot. Without any proof. I do not use the hotspot on my phone long term. I only want to use it when I measure my weight.

Next thing is dat in these forum posts a customer had succes by disabeling the 802 N standard.

What is the best configuration to see whats wrong ?
I think I schould tether via usb to my mac. Then I will make the mac a wifi accesspoint. I like to get some expert advice
from Garmin when I inpect the packets withe wireshark.

  • I do not work for Garmin, but if you are able to run wireshark on an encrypted Wifi hotspot, I would love to know if you see the same problem as I do.  If you trust me, you can also send me the wireshark dump file (note: there might be other network traffic)

    What I see:

    - scale gets as far as making http connections (so dhcp, dns, ntp, etc. work)

    - garmin server sends response

    - scale stops responding

    - hotspot sends a few TCP retransmissions 1 second apart (will look like it comes from the garmin server)

    - eventually scale gives up

So you'll see 4 or 5 retransmissions in Wireshark at the end, normally coloured in red.

If you can, on the Mac, set the hotspot unencrypted (just for a test), and see if that works.  Wait at least 5 minutes between resetting the Wifi on the scale, because it retries in the background while the screen is off.

(als het moet, kan het in het nederlands verder)

It should work if you can configure your hotspot for 2.4 GHz.  A lot default to 5 or 6 Ghz if your hardware supports it.

  • I still am getting only sporadic updates about once every 20-30 days. I use the scale daily but no daily updates in the app
