Garmin Index 1 reset

Sorry for posting in Index S2, but original Index forum is arhived and doesn't support posting anymore.

So I have original Garmin Index scale that worked fine for many years, but after some non-related Wi-Fi trouble, I made a reset of Index scale and now I can't pair it anymore.

1. I've removed it from my Garmin Connect account using Garmin Connect android app.

2. I've made a reset of Index Scale by pushing Reset button for 5 sec.

3. Index scale shows big wrench icon and small Bluetooth/ANT+/Wi-Fi icons blinking in upper left corner (see attached photo).

4. Garmin Connect -> Devices -> Add Device -> Browse all compatible devices -> Index -> Index Smart Scale -> Search for device

5. Garmin connect finds it immediately.

6. However, it reports "This device is already linked to another Garmin Connect account. We must reset the device and erase its current data to link it to your account".

7. I hit "reset". Show details shows steps -> Connected -> Checked device registration -> Sending device reset command... and then last status changes to "Garmin device disconnected".

Garmin Connect just hangs there and then i crashes.

So far, I've tried following without results:

- reinstalling Garmin Connect app on the phone

- logging into Garemin connect app with different account

Always to the same.

Apparently, device no longer belongs to me, but it's also unable to reset itself.

Any hints?

  • Any luck finding a solution? I have the same issue. Are you using an iPhone or android?

  • I managed to resolve the issue, which seems related to the Garmin app version.

I was using a Galaxy S24 Ultra with Garmin app version 5.5, which caused the problems mentioned in the original post. I then switched to my previous phone, a Galaxy S21 Ultra, with an older Garmin app version (4.75).

Using a phone with an older garmin app version worked perfectly—the scale reset and was added back to my profile in under 10 seconds.

I recommend downgrading your Garmin app to an earlier version and then trying to reset Garmin scale again.

  • How or where did  you find the prev version to install?  I'm running 5.5 on Android and same issues as above

  • My solution was to smash the scale. After their lack of attention to their watch chargers (better options on Amazon for under 10 bucks), and not being able to use a scale I own, I am done with Garmin.

  • A valid response.

In the end my partner also has a Garmin watch. I removed the scale from my account, added it to her account and shared it with myself.

I can now use my scale again. This shows it is not the scale but an issue with the Garmin account. Frustrating that there is no support from Garmin on this - it should be a simple account cleanup but it is impossible to find anyone to help.

    Great tech, shoddy service.

  • I can confirm that using an old app version works. How i did it:

I downloaded the latest 4.x version (I think it was 4.7.2) from APK Mirror. It's a web site that hosts downloadable, manually installable copies of almost every app out there. You can easily find it on Google.

I would recommend to uninstall the current version from your phone first as downgrading is typically not supported.

This absolutely solved the problem and I was able to reset and re-connect my Index scale to my Garmin account. Shame on Garmin for not regression testing critical user journeys of their app on older hardware!

  • If you're using an Android phone, follow these steps:

    1. Uninstall the Garmin app from your phone.
    2. Download and manually install the latest version from this link:
Garmin Connect Mobile 4.75 on APKMirror.
    3. Reset your Garmin scale via the app
  • Thank you everyone, I can confirm downgrading worked for me.

  • Had the exact same problem. Downgrading to version 4.75 worked fine. Thanks to miggzb for finding a solution. Shame on Garmin for ignoring issues with older devices. The scale itself is fine after years of use. It looks and works like new. Why should we change the scale just because Garmin has a software issue?
