S2 does not activate with touch of foot

I just purchased a new S2 and have it successfully connected to my network and Garmin Connect.

It is on a hardwood floor (tile) .. but when I tap it with my foot .. nothing happens.

To have the screen light up (ready to accept my weight) .. I need to first lift the scale off the floor then put it down .. the screen then lights up.

Am I missing something .. or should I return this?

  • I have been spoiled by quickly/easily our Withings Body+ wakes up.

I too, had a previous Withings and found it a lot more enjoyable to use.  I have other Garmin devices, which is nice to have integrated stats. Still, I was expecting better quality from Garmin as I see in its other products

  • Yeah, activating the S2 Index is just odd, sometimes when the kids or the dog runs past it, it activates.

But if I stomp on it, nothing happens.

Lifting it slightly with my right foot in the right corner and bumping it down, turns it on 9 out of 10 times.

Garmin, surely this can be done better. Fine that it activates when someone runs on wooden floor, but that it doesn't activate if you stand on it or taps it on the top, that is just weird and pretty poor.

  • The user experience seems to be a bit variable, with mine, I only have to drop a sock on it or brush it with a towel (or a very light toe tap) and it wakes up, no effort whatsoever.

  • So I need to check back in with (slightly) more promising news.  I've had the scale for nearly a month.  And for reasons I don't understand, the sensitivity to activate is much better than when I used it out of the box.  Now I just have to tap on top of the scale to start.

I suppose one has to have a little patience with this guy.

  • As dumb as this may sound, thank you for the video LOL  this has solved my frustrating problem of the scale not turning on for now!! Thanks!!!
