  • But today mine has given me again an impossible value. Way off by more than 5%. I dunno why yesterday it worked more or less well but today not.

  • Yea, it really doesn't seem like they adjusted the original algorithm at all. They just added to the algorithm with the ability to enter a body fat percentage from another scale/DEXA scan. For me there's absolutely no improvement. It's exactly the same as it was before. I don't quite understand how Garmin thinks adding a measurement from another scale makes sense. It's basically admitting other methods of measurement are better than the Garmin scale.

  • After some days checking the values given by the scale after the update I can say that It still gives impossible values.

Now it's way off by a 5% a bit less than before but the worst thing is that if you change the age now it barely changes the BF% but it changes values in  Bone mass and Muscle mass.

If any1 in Garmin want to check, I post today results.

    6:34a.m. Real Age 50.

    BF17.8% Muscle 33.4kg Water 60% Bone 4.9

    6.35a.m. Age set to 17.

    BF17.4% Muscle 36.4 Water 60.3% Bone 5.9

So with similar BF and water I win 3kg of Muscle and 1 kg of Bone. Same weight.

    Tanita data 6.38 a.m.

    Same weight. BF12.3% Muscle 65.8kg Bone 3.5kg.

Nothing more to say. Bf adjusted last two days in Garmin Connect with tanita values.

Index2 bought in March 2021. A week after that posted here the comparison values.

    Contacted Garmin. Nothing changed.

Kevin contacted me in September after many posts here.

Not fixed in Januany(almost February) 2023

  • I just bought the S2 Smart Scale a few days ago. Compared with my other scale, a Tanita, it consistently shows a body fat percentage that is about 5% higher. I have just updated to the latest software yesterday. This makes me very disappointed with the purchase as I don't think I have that much body fat. It means that the S2 is not accurate in this aspect.

  • Once I completed the update, my scale no longer provides the advanced metrics.  Any suggestions?

  • Is it enabled in Garmin Connect?

    1. I just purchased and received my S2 Scale. My excitement was short lived after just the first use. The body fat reading was 22.3%. Based on other devices I have used my body fat is usually reading between 10-12%. Based on what I read in these forums I thought the new updates fixed this issue but apparently not. I purchased the scale specifically for this use and feel like I just wasted my money. I'm glad I'm not using this in my healthcare clinic!! Do I wait for this to be fixed which seems to be unlikely, or go through the hassle of returning it? What to do!?
  • Did you really read this and other forums about the Garmin S2? After > 2 years Garmin is very mysterious about how the scale works. Or better, does not work for most metrics. Weight is ok I suppose. So, no don't wait. Bring it back if you can't live with a BF% based on algorithms(what?) instead of real measurements. You could use an Excel to do this!

  • I have done a dexa scan and my body fat percentage is 9.7 percent. I am also using a nokia scale which shows my body fat percentage to be in the 8 to 10 percent range.

yet the Index S2 scale is consistently showing body fat percentage between 18 and 20 percent.

    this is blatantly inaccurate

I have already set my activity class at 10, still the body fat percentage shown is vastly inaccurate

    please confirm what to do

it is disappointing to spend usd 150 for a scale which is not working
