Wildly Fluctuating Readings Between Days

I’m hoping someone can explain these wildly fluctuating readings between days. I’d expect them to be somewhat in the same ballpark day over day from one reading to the next, however this doesn’t seem to be the case. I would expect that body fat % should never fluctuate more than a fraction of a percentage each day, but the scale says I was 24.5% yesterday and today 17.2%. I wish. However, I am 6 ft 2 in at 175 lbs. I'm a rail basically, who has cycled and rowed 10000 miles over the past 2 years. I doubt 24.5% was ever correct in the first place. I think I may have wasted my money on this scale.

  • There are a lot of posts regarding the accuracy of body fat percentage, such as this thread, which is pinned to the top of this forum:

However, the data should not be fluctuating wildly from day to day. But there could be valid reasons for it. It looks like your weight readings are fairly consistent, as are mine. For me, if I had a long run the day before, my weight the next morning will be up by 2 to 5 lbs, as well the body water percentage. I contribute it to post-run eating and hydration. This will also contribute to the body fat percentage. Body fat, as described in the linked thread, could be suspect to accuracy readings as interpreted by the scale. Personally, just to keep my sanity, I don't pay attention to any of the readings except weight, which I find to be accurate in my case.

  • Thanks. I returned it for a refund.
