To keep this post short here are my issues with Scale S2:
1.) Poor measurement data accuracy
- I step on a scale shows a measurement, after that I take a bottle of water (250 ml = 250 g = 0,25 kg) and weigh myself again. Weight stays the same as the measurement without the bottle....
- Algorithm for body metrics is a simple one and should not be on a $160 product if a $40 Xiaomi scale can beat it and is more accurate! (for example on Garmin if you change your birthday by a couple of years your body fat% will change drastically; this issue is also posted on the forum by other people)
- If I have multiple people registered to the scale it only compares to match them by weight and not by other factors (like body fat%, muscle mass,...)
- No Visceral body fat measurement! (again $40 Xiaomi scale has that)
2.) Laggy screen
- When the scale is switching between showing body composition metrics after you weight your self the transition between screens is very laggy and I would expect for a $160 scale to work nicely and smoothly.
- And not just laggy screen... I don't understand why I still have to enter 4 letters for my "name"... the scale can display my full name from Garmin profile without a problem...
3.) Weather issues
- This "bug" became known recently but basically no weather data is fetched and the scale looks like this:
- Weather data si not accurate. It's a shame that I can't enter location manually in Garmin Connect app so that weather data would be more accurate, because for me it is always a couple of degrees off and pretty much shows useless data.
4.) Garmin Index S2 scale icon is not shown in Garmin anymore
- From the pictures below you can see that anywhere on Garmin Connect the image of the watch isn't shown anymore... this started happening recently.
Final thoughts: For $160 I am expecting at least an accurate, properly working scale that actually justifies a price of $160. I had the previous scale (Garmin Index - their first smart scale) and build quality of the new one is worse, but the data accuracy did improve just a little bit on the new one. Before I bought my first Garmin Scale I had a Xiaomi smart scale 2 and it was amazing with 0 problems. The only reason I keep using this Garmin scale is because I want all data in one app. I hope Garmin fixes these issues since they are mostly software.
If you had any issues with the scale please comment below cause I want to see just how bad this product really is. And I am saying bad because it is priced at $160... if the price was reasonable for what you get it wouldn't be that bad.
