Index S2 Smart Scale: Pairing Failed

I’ve just received my Index S2 Smart Scales and the Garmin Connect App goes through the process of connecting however never actually makes the connection and come up with Pairing Failed - Retry. I’ve got 2 watches successfully paired with Garmin Connect and I’ve rest the scales and the app countless times?…

  • Hrm. Still no luck for me.

  • I’m on iPhone.

  • My guess is there was an update to the app, and the android one came through first. I imagine the iphone one isn't too far away

  • I'm on Android and my last app update was in early November.

  • With "pairing failed", especially if you had a device paired before and are trying to remove/reset/pair it again, it may help to clear the phone's bluetooth cache. My method (on Samsung S8+) is to remove the device in GC, close out GC, and unpair device from phone bluetooth settings. Then in app settings, clear the application cache for GC. Set the option to show system apps, then also clear the cache of the Bluetooth app and all BT-related sys apps.

This could all look & go a bit differently depending on carrier and android version. I don't know how this all works on iPhones, but I assume there must be some clearable cached info for the BT networking there as well. The Garmin device should disappear from the list of remembered BT devices after you've done this. Factory reset the Garmin device, reboot the phone, fire up GC, and pair as normal.

A more aggressive version of this would involve clearing cache and app data for GC and BT apps. You might lose other existing BT pairings and devices linked in GC, but it could be worth a shot if wiping caches alone fails.

  • Same here. Utterly useless and completely brand damaging

  • I have the same issue here too. I've updated Garmin Connect and IOS to the latest version. I've restarted my phone and garmin app and re'logged into the app. I've made sure to forget all bluetooth devices before connecting but I'm still unable to pair and setup the scale.

  • Same issue here. I have tried to connect it with 2 different Android phones, 1 iPhone. I did all the reboots, cache clearing of the BTs and still no success. It would be great if Garmin could issue a manual to help users with this issue or update the GC app so the issue isn't happening.

The pairing for my other Garmin devices (Venu 2 and a Edge 830) went very smoothly, so it is a bit surprising and dissapointing to be facing this issue.

If I can't get it paired, I will return it in a few days.

  • Same problem here. I tried everything to pair my new scale... but I keep getting the message pairing failed. tried removing cache, restarting, other brand phone, reinstalling Harmon connect, but no luck

  • I ordered an ANT+ USB (cheap one). Will try to pair with that and update the software of the scale. Will let you guys know if it works.
