Body Fat % on Index S2 Smart Scale Seems Inaccurate

My new scale seems to give me a wildly different reading than my old one. I was previously using a Weight Guru's scale which gave me a body fat percentage between 18 and 19 percent which seems reasonable given my overall weight and fitness level. The new Garmin scale shows me over 26% body fat. Both scales show identical weight so what gives with the wild body fat numbers?

  • Today I had a chance to do body composition analysis with a professional grade InBody 570 system. According to that my BF% is 13%.

One hour later I weighted myself with the Garmin scale, and according to that my BF% is 21.2%!

  • That's nice and I provided the data as soon as requested. I would have expected a solution being provided in a few days: this thing has been going on for 5 months, which I believe is way to much for such an expensive product...

  • I have zero confidence this will ever be fixed, which is too bad considering how much this cost, but I would still like to be added to the list.  Thanks.

  • You can add me to this list and I just posted about this problem on a new Index S2 scale I just bought and you and I have almost the same metrics! My Tanita shows me at 20% body fat and the Garmin shows me at 26.5% body fat - that is a whopping 10 more pounds of fat! Hopefully the Garmin is way off or I am a fatty tatty even though I dont look like it! :P

  • Garmin-Kevin, please add me to the list.

  • Please add me to the report. Thank you.

  • I think you are correct and body fat/muscle mass/bone density/water are based on an algorithm that uses age/weight/height. My S2 tells me body fat is 26% and I'm obese (I'm 175cm tall, weight 63kg and a waist of 75cm). Each time I reduce my age by 10 years body fat goes down and muscle mass/bone density/water goes up. If I enter 42 as my age body fat is 17%. So the scale is telling me that in 2 minutes I have turn 5.7kg of fat into something else.

  • I noticed the same. I lowered my age 20 years and % of body fat went down 5% (similar to % given by other devices). I own few Garmin devices: watch, bike computer, hrm pro strap and I was always happy with it. I'm technical guy and I like to analyze figures, numbers etc. I decided to measure the progress more with expensive scale. I chose Garmin Index instead of Tanita due it's handy to have everything in one ecosystem. Unfortunately Garmin scale is totally useless. I can put weight manually in Garmin Connect and other parameters are not accurate, can distribute other statistics. It's possible  to make a little modification that we can  put % of body fat manually as well? Maybe Garmin Index can use that figure as basic.

  • it is not only about fat
after a hard interval workout I was 2kg lighter but S2 gave me even bigger water % than it was before workout. Looks like none of the readings are ok

  • Can I be added to this ticket.. there is a 7+% difference between the index and the fitbit scales i owned before with the index registering near 27% .. at this point i might aswell have bought  cheap analogue set of scales..
