I also had initially difficulties to wake it up (got mine just yesterday) - until I found out that "tapping" should rather be called "knocking". Try knocking with your finger on the scale as if you were…
solved: you have to kick it, not just toucht
As an update, I received shipping confirmation for my replacement scale the day they received the defective one, so kudos to Garmin for the fast response. Fingers crossed this one is better!
Yeah. I could spend $20 at Target and get a scale with a dial ... instant measurement. Or I can spend $150 and need to have a boxing match with the Index S2 every morning. Was there really any consumer testing? Is the result of all the Garmin minds that this was acceptable. Do any of them use this scale in the morning. Please, Garmin administration, contact me. Let me invite you on a video tour of what a casual consumer needs to do in the morning to use this device. I have a Fenix 3, Fenix 6, and Index S2 .. brand loyal. But I'm about to download all my history, upload to another platform, and say goodbye. Your move, Garmin.
I had an old set of electronic scales that I basically had to do a heel strike in the middle of it to wake it up. When I got the Index 2 I started trying to wake it up with the same method which was very hit or miss.
What I found in the end was not much more than a very light toe tap was all that was required (for mine) - I think the other thing that got me, is there is a second or two delay from the time you tap to the time it wakes up, I think I was just being impatient.
Now a days I just take a half step on it in one of the corners and step back until its ready.
Hey
Writing this for PPL like me. This post is year old I know, but just got my Index s2 and I have to literally kick it to wake it up. No taping no knocking I the middle or lifting. Nada, nothing. Garmin still sells defect product. When I lift Garmin index s2 scale then it starts for a sec and go dark instantly. So I kick it and it works, really great for morning worm up!
THANKS!!! THIS WORKS!!! Tap with my toe nail.
I am a runner, I don't have any toenails LOL!
Yeah, it's a terrible design. When I first tried to use it I thought it was broken as it wouldn't wake up half the time. I'd end up lifting it with my foot and dropping it on to the tiled bathroom floor to wake it, not exactly silent for first thing in the morning with the wife still in bed.
Over time I've found that doing a quick stamp on the scale with my foot seems to work most of the time but it's odd they would make it like this and not just wake up when 80kg is on top of it, surely that should be enough to wake it up.
Or when MY 145Kg is on top of it - should be enough to NOT WANT to wake up
I’m so glad to read this thread and realize I am not alone. I have to stamp on the damn thing to get it to wake up.
