Varia RTL515 Error 0.9

When does Garmin expect to fix this very well known error?  I've had a Varia radar for a few years, and I constantly get a modal error message, which REQUIRES that I take my hand off of my handlebars and click a button (thus impacting my security when riding fast!) in order to dismiss this message.  Looking through the forums, Garmin is obviously very aware of this annoyance, and I'd like to know if there is an intention to fix this.  My Varia has the most current firmware, v3.36.  My Garmin computer is a Garmin 540 Solar, also at the most current firmware level, v27.14  As a former software engineer, I'd really think that this wouldn't be so difficult to fix, at least so that the message doesn't require that I acknowledge it by clicking... put a 3 second timer on it at least.  Please try to do something about this annoyance, that really impacts my security.  One day I'm going to go down clicking that button!  Thanks.

  • Garmin just emailed me and said it's not a problem even though many, many people have been complaining about this for the past three years...

I just brought it up again here as well.

It is still a problem three years later.  Vehicle lane assist radar seems to be causing the Varia to error out... It's dangerous to force cyclists to take their hands off the bars to clear a modal stupid error message that's not even an error -- while cars are passing.  Literally, all they have to do is NOT display this at all if it reconnects within 1000ms.   And, if it does disconnect, just do the small "Reconnected" notification that disappears.

  • Totally agree with you, hoyhoy.  What a shame that Garmin seems to be totally ignoring the need of bikers using their product.  In my particular case, with a Garmin 540 Solar, it's actually a bit difficult to push those buttons, so I really have to keep my hand off of the handlebar several seconds so it really is a safety hazard.  Looks like it's time for me to look at a different brand the next time I need a bike computer.  From what I hear, the competition, eg. Wahoo, does listen more to their customers.

  • Totally agree with all of you

I have the issue with my Edge 830. Garmin support explained me that I just have to unpair de Varia device, reset completely the Edge and reconfigure the system

Done ... of course without any improvement!

  • I emailed them again yesterday, no response.

  • No problem with Magene L508 Radar Tail Light! It has more functions, a better battery life and its price is lower.

  • Same here.

New product, well updated. Use it with Edge 1050.

Even if they cannot fix the problem itself, I totally agree within using just a message we do not neet to copy by click.

Something like that should not appear in this priceclass of products, especially not, if the product is available since so many years.
