New Varia model is coming

Anyone have news for a new model coming in the next few months? Varia is a good product but In 2024 I think some improvemets shouldbe be considered su as:

  • Smaller version
  • USB-C
  • Better battery performance
  • Garmin vibration watch notification

Tks for reply

  • I am not buying a 2yr old version of Varia when they have been putting out new models every 2 years.  $400 is a lot to drop to find out that a new model is just around the corner.  I wish Garmin would just come out with it instead of being all secretive.  I have already contacted them, and they're playing this so close to the chest.  Gear up guys!

  • The RTL515 is currently going for £130 or less in the UK (vs a launch price of £170). I can guarantee any replacement will be much more. If you need the safety and reassurance of a rear radar, my advice would be to buy it.  It's still better than anything else on the market. You can always upgrade later once the inevitable bugs in the new version are ironed out, assuming that one is imminent at all.

  • So obviously there will be an announcement for a new Garmin Edge 1050 on June 25 which is Tuesday next week. As Garmin usually announces (at least cycling related) products on Tuesdays, there is a good chance that they will also announce an updated Varia or at least one that has USB-C instead of Micro USB.

  • Key things I would expect to see.

    Improvements on video stabilisation

    Weight reduction

    USB-C

    Better battery life

Image quality improvement especially poor light.

  • The problem is not the Varia but the 830, I have the same problem. The 820 was different and I could hear the beep well.

  • I'm waiting, fingers crossed! I really want one, but no way I'm buying a product released 4 years ago. Smaller and lighter would be great. I held one once and it felt like a brick!

  • 71 grams is a brick?

  • Haha, OK point taken... I was speaking figuratively compared to other rear lights (albeit without radars). It felt heavy to me, that's all I meant. Also the size made me think 'brick'!

  • That's really funny thinking.
So what it has been released 4 years go? What has changed since then? Lights are reinvented? They blink differently? LOL I bought mine last year and if I wouldn't own it already I would buy it again. Especialy that it's even cheaper and works as good as 4 years ago.

  • The weight comes from the battery since the light has more functions than a normal rear light. The light is a tremendous asset to cyclists and even if it weighed twice what it now weighs, I would still use it.
