I picked up a Varia 510 1.5 years ago. I've had it out on maybe 20 or so rides as I don't do roads much anymore. Recently it started cycling itself through light modes - even when not paired with a head unit to control it. This started 2 weeks ago and today I got tired of it so I pressed the button in to turn it off. Now the button is stuck down. I've tried washing it and went around the crevice with a razor to make sure nothing is lodged inside to hold it down.
I contacted support and as I'm outside the 1 year warranty, they want me to ship it in, and play $90 for a replacement (I'd imagine a refurb).
It's possible to get this (older) model on sales for 120-130, so I'm really taken back by this. Would it be worth calling directly during the weekdays to see if there is a better offer? Just to be clear, I'm not trying to throw a hissy fit, but rather just weighing out my options. If I'm going to shell out $90 plus shipping for a 510 replacement I might just opt to pay more and get the 515 so I can use it with my phone when needed. Or just buy a 510 on sale for a tiny bit more and know that it's brand new.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what type of replacement experience you had. If it's a common issue I'd rather not pay to get another, especially with it failing after such little use.
I've had issues with the Edge units...probably had to replace every model I've owned except the 830 so far. Garmin was generally better about not charging that much for replacements just outside the warranty.
