RTL515 Battery level in Garmin Varia App

Hi All,

I paired my new RTL515 with an Android phone and an iPhone as well using the Garmin Varia app on both.

On both phones the battery level displayed as yellow, somewhere around 20-30%. The radar was fully charged this morning, the led was solid green when I disconnected from the charger. In the About section on my FR 945 the battery level is 'New'.

I am not sure if the Varia App has a battery level display bug or my item has a battery issue. Could someone check and confirm if their battery level indicator works fine and I need to contact Garmin Support?

Thank you!

  • Can you post a screenshot from your Iphone with the varia battery level. I can see no colored battery level on my Iphone.

My 6xPS shows the battery level as good; my Iphone shows a battery icon, which is 3/4 full

  • With a full charge, I get this on my devices:

  • That's not your battery level, the battery icon is just above to the left and is showing full.  Think the colour relates to how far a vehicle is behind you but not really sure as I don't use the app.

  • I was not talking about the green bar with the bike on it.

  • Thank you for your comment, I managed to solve it by resetting the radar.

Here are some screenshots from both the Android and the iPhone, the battery indicator is usually white but after some draining it switches to yellow. I suppose it will be red at some point but I haven't reached that state Slight smile

  • Update:

Yes, it becomes red under 15%.

  • Thanks for the informations. As usual, a lot informations aren’t documented in the manual...

  • A number of informations are incorrectly documented in the manual. For example, this description about the "Auto" light mode in the RTL515 manual is copied straight from the RTL510 manual:

Auto: Automatically adjusts the light intensity and light mode based on the ambient light and time of day. This mode is recommended for commuting or road rides.

And in both cases, they are incorrect. Both the RTL510 and RTL515 do not have the capability to have its light intensity adjusted based on the ambient light and time of day. On the Garmin head units that feature ambient light sensor - if auto brightness is enabled - the "Auto" mode only switches between day flash and night flash.

Also, the manual describes three light modes: solid, night flash, and day flash. There is no "solid" mode on my Garmin Edge 520 and 530. There is, however, a "low" mode.

  • It's interesting that the app shows the actual battery level in percentage. I wonder if a Connect IQ app can now read the battery level in percentage for the RTL515, rather than the status values ranging from 0 to 5, as reported by for the RTL510.

  • This is due to the difference between the ANT and BLE specifications. BLE calls for a %, ANT uses a status.
