New Edge MTB not connecting to Garmin Express on MacOs Sequoia

I have several Edge units, which all work fine with Garmin Express.

However, GE won't recognized my brand new Edge MTB and as a consequence, freezes GE altogether. Only solution: restart the computer.

Since, everything works fine with my other Garmin devices, the problem must be with the MTB unit (BTW it enters into mass storage mode). I then performed a full reset but nothing changed.

Any hints/explanation?

PS: Permisssions are all set correctly in MacOS Sequoia.

I faced a similar issue with my Edge MTB unit. I wanted to install maps, but the Garmin Connect kept freezing. After several restarts, I finally managed to do it, and I sincerely hope I won't have to repeat this process anytime soon. I tried installing the maps on three different Macs, including one with macOS 26, and the issue persisted on all of them.

Do you mean Garmin Express? In my case, it is definitely a problem with the unit itself. All my other Garmin devices work perfectly with Garmin Express.

Yes, I meant Garmin Express because as I know there is no other way to update/install topo maps since the unit does not have Wi-Fi itself. I am not sure if the problem is in the unit itself or within the Garmin Express software, but issues were there.

Contacted Garmin support. Swapping both ends of the cable was the solution.

Same here. Garmin Express is just very instable with the Edge MTB.

Same problem here. The Edge MTB is my first Garmin product. The unit restarts during rides, and it can’t connect to Garmin Express. I’m about to call it a day and return the device. It’s definitely not living up to my expectation.

"Swapping both ends of the cable was the solution" : This solution dos not work anymore. Garmin express freezes again when connecting MTB, whichever ends I connect to the Garmin unit. Restart of my Macbook Pro is necessary each time to restore an operating Garmin Express for use with my other Garmin devices.

I've been having the same problem described here on latest firmware 28.20 and MacOS Sequoia with a brand new Edge MTB unit.

I finally got it working on an Apple Silicon/M1 by following these instructions:

Ensure Garmin Connect has Full Disk Access Enabled

In Spotlight (Cmd + Space), open "Privacy & Security"
Select "Full Disk Access"
Ensure "Garmin Express" is listed and the slider is enabled
1. If Garmin Express does not show, press the add button and select Garmin Express

It will only connect one time then requires a reboot (otherwise it hangs), but seems to reliably connect now. Maps updated!

1. Quite Garmin Express and make sure the service is killed (if it froze).
2. Unplug the MTB edge from the Mac.
3. Power off mtb Edge
4. Plug it in and wait till the usb icon appears.
5. Open Garmin Express.
