Missing european maps

I've bought the Garmin Edge Explore on amazon.de. The description states that it includes the full European maps, but only the following maps are available on the device:

  • INTL standard basemape, NR
  • Garming Cycle map EU, North East
  • Garmin DEM MAP EU
  • Garmin geocode map EU

So, maps from Belgium, France, The Netherlands are missing. For those countries, only the major roads are displayed.

Is this normal for the European version of this device? How can I can the maps for those countries?

  • Same problem and not a PC user so unable to resolve it. Have Garmin acknowledged this as a major issue and indicated that they will remediate it?

  • I have had the exact same issue, I haven’t even used my Edge Explore on my bike yet and it took me a whole day, updating on my Mac and then PC, no real help when you search for this problem. Such a clunky software interface with two iapps of software to my it work. (Express and connect on MAC and PC) Up loading routes sometime work other times they don’t via the software. It makes you wonder if garmin software engineers have ever seen a smart phone and how easy and intuitive things should work¿ Maybe they all have Motorola Tacs still.

  • I spoke with Garmin about this issue and they have identified a fix for it and it should be in the next GE software update for the Mac

I'm not sure when that will be, but I got the impression it would be within a couple of weeks.

  • Great I'm screwed, my maps have gone too, thanks Garmin! Supposed to be touring around Europe in 1 week and like a total idiot I thought I'd update the maps and firmware. No access to  PC what the hell can I do?

  • the same for me. After the update (on a MacBook air) I lost the maps...

And I am supposed to go for an extended WE tonight. I wish not to have updated the map....

Any one has a quick fix?

  • Look into ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/Maps (writing from memory, so may not be exact path, perhaps it’s in ~/Library/Caches even) it downloads all map img files there but then forgets to copy to device. Copy over one that’s missing from device (check by exact file sizes, as names are different there)

  • Until Garmin provides a fix (hopefully soon), you can install openstreetmaps for the desired region. dcrainmaker has a great recent article about this

    www.dcrainmaker.com/.../how-to-install-free-maps-on-your-garmin-edge.html

I had the same problem being in Switzerland without usuable maps. installed them this afternoon using rays guidelines and now I seem to have good maps to go for the vacation!

BTW works well for any other region, so don't waste your money on Garmin Maps (especially give the present disaster, which really angered me as well).

  • Many thanks for this - it solved the problem without needing a windows device.

  • This solved the problem for me also (without using a windows device) - thank you very much!

  • Works fine for me as well. You’re a genius dude! Thanks.
