Huge map update

Garmin Express showing me, that there is a maps update to 2024.20 and it has 18,56 GB.

Its some kind of bug? I mean, Explore 2 has only 16GB of space.

Interesting. Maybe they accidentally added too much detail in the new version. If you can remove some area that you don't need, then upgrade, then maybe you'll have some nice things, that will be removed after Garmin get know this problem.

Ah, how much free space you currently have? Maybe you are already close to the 16GB and it's only a small increase in size, and you really just need to remove some map that you don't need now

i have 1,9GB of free space. Maps are only for Europe. Even when i remove all maps, i cant install 18,56GB on a 16GB device :) Simply math

I would rather wait for the 2025.10 maps

I guess then it's a (literarily) huge bug. Go and report to customer support if you don't want to wait until 2026... support.garmin.com/.../

I just installed it via Garmin express update - without any problem, so the actual size must be under 16 GB.

You don't need to have that space free on the device because Garmin Express deletes the old map files before installing the new ones.
If I count together the sizes of all files of the Cycle Map EU 2024.20 it is nearly 11 GB, so that fits completely in the 16GB storage space of the EE2. @schoenberg's experience confirms this.

Cannot explain why your GE offers a map update of 18,58GB though...

If you intend to try the map update to 2024.20, make a backup of the existing maps (.img & .gma) to the PC before.

Free space doesnt metter.

Its simply math.. you cant get 18,8GB to 16GB storage.

I just wait for next update. Thank you for the feedback ;)
