Sending Software Update

I had the same problem and it was due to the size of the update. I'm on Linux but I had to install a Garmin Express on Windows and the update took nearly three hours with fibre optics. All subsequent updates were done with Garmin Connect.

The difference between updating a Forerunner out of the box compared to this is night and day. Here I was thinking buying a Garmin would make my life easier! 

Unfortunately the 1st update only worked via GE. All the others worked via Bluetooth and GC

Ah that is good. At least I will only have to go through this rigmarole once.

I have no machine on Windows and my first and all updates were via Garmin Connect. It can fail 5-10 times to send software updates but I just leave my Edge near for a few hours and thats it.

You were lucky. After I bought it and when the 1st software update appeared I had it on for about a week 24/7, next to my phone, but it could not finish it. I don't understand why they still produce these with the earliest FW version, instead of the latest at the time of manufacturing...

Mine arrive today, by Garmin express take about 25 minuted to update the firmware and Europe maps.

Update: despite throwing my toys out of the pram, I installed Garmin Express on my MacBook (the old version because I run Catalina) and it updated the EE2 in less than an hour, installed in moments. 

Hopefully, I can run everything through the app from here on in.
