Alert: Temperature to low. Backlight will be limited

I have a warning message "Temperature to low. Backlight will be limited" (Temperatur zu niedrig. Beleuchtung ist eingeschränkt)
It visually blocks half of the display and I have to keep clicking away. It's annoying and I don't want to keep taking my gloves off when I'm wearing thick gloves in the cold.
I don't need this warning, I know how cold it is.
Do you also have this message?
Where does it come from?
How can I turn it off?

  • I have the same problems since the temperatures were below zero Celcius last week. Regulations of the lightintensity impossible  by hand. And my Explore 2 also has problems navigating in this alert modus. After missing a turn it doesn't recalculate properly. And the 'back to the start directly' function needs several attempts before working properly. The dutch Garmin helpdesk doesn't have a clue like the helpdesks elsewhere, as far as I understand the other comments.

  • I got the following advice, that maybe solves the problem. Select > Batterysaver > enable > Reduce backlight > hide > Hide map > hide

I myself can not check this solutions as the weather has changed to temperatures far above zero.

Hello   and thank you for your contributions. Apart from the error message, my Explore 2 is not experiencing any other problems. In winter and mostly in the dark, I only ride with 10% lighting anyway, which is perfectly adequate. Navigation works perfectly and the battery capacity does not seem to have any noticeable losses.
If only it weren't for that annoying error message.

hide > Hide map > hide

Switching off the map would not be a practical solution for me, because I need the navigation.

  • Languageproblem: I ment to say: NOT enable 'Hide map'. This morning it was only +1˚C and with the suggested batterysaving settings I didn't receive any messages. So maybe this is the solution.

  • This is what the Dutch customersupport thinks:
According to the technical team, this is a message that can appear if the battery encounters problems. A kind of battery saving mode that the device then enters. Do you perhaps have a photo of this notification? Furthermore, this is not entirely clear to us.

As for the elsewhere mentioned returning notification. The several times that the notification appeared I only had
to click it away once and it didn't reappear during that ride.
  • Hello  many thx for your feedback.
I have already sent photos and my details to the support.
The returning notifications only occurs on longer journeys. In my memory after approx. 20 min.
It could also be due to the temperature threshold being exceeded again after the first message and then falling below it again.
I am waiting for feedback from German support. They have forwarded it to the development department.

A battery problem is beyond me. I drive with 10% backlight and have no problems with my battery or consumption. And at 0°C it shouldn't be a problem either. I am very happy with the battery performance of my Edge Explore 2, even in cold temperatures. The only thing that annoys me are the annoying and pointless messages that spoil my driving pleasure and distract me.

Btw: The Edge has an official operating temperature of -20ºC to 60ºC. So why the message at 0ºC?

  • I've had this behavior on my 830 for as long as I can remember. The device is a little bit over 3 years old. I'm based in Sweden so it gets quite cold here in the winter (-10 - -15 is the coldest I bike). This winter a new issue has been introduced, which I believe is related to the device controlling the backlight due to low temperatures.

    1. I use the device in cold temperature.

    2. Warning pops up "Temperature too low, backlight will be limted", usually after 10-20 minutes of riding.

    3. I close the message and continue riding (total ride time is about 50 mins on "winter rides").

    4. When the ride is finished, I turn the device off.

    5. After a random amount of time, the device turns on the display with the backlight turned on, but it doesn't display any text. Just a blank page with backlight turned on.

    6. On the next ride, the battery has been drained because of the screen being on.

I think this is a software bug and that it was introduced by an update that was installed sometime after last winter. When the temperature is warmer, and this message is not displayed, my device does not intermittently turn on the screen.

I've emailed the support asking for help.

I was promised an answer from German support 3 months ago. unfortunately nothing so far.
