My Edge 840 won't reconnect to wifi automatically

I've noticed recently that my Edge 840 doesn't reconnect to wifi. If I clear all wifi settings, then connect to my network it syncs fine. But after it turns off, once it wakes back up, it won't connect to the wifi network. It seems to be stuck in a "connecting" state but never connects. The only way to get it to connect is to delete the wifi network and then re-add it and it works again. This is of course not how it's supposed to work, and is a giant pita.

Any thoughts or ideas?

  • Unfortunately this does not work for me. I have already configured my router (Fritzbox) to have a separate 2.4GHz network with a different name, and my Edge 840 is connected to this separate 2.4GHz network.
Wifi works perfectly fine when I add this network for the first time, and then the Edge does not connect to this same network anymore after an Edge power cycle. The exact same thing happens with the wifi hotspot on my iPhone.
This is a very annoying problem, and if Garmin is incompetent to solve it I will have to switch to another brand...

  • what is the used channel in the FritzBox (which model?) and i hope it is not on "Auto" setting?!

with manual, try to select the lower channels close to "1" (check the other 2.4GHz WIFIs around you to avoid conflicts, so choose a free channel), my setting (in 7590) looks like this one:

  • Also try setting to WPA2 not WPA3 if possible on your 2.4ghz wifi network

  • Thanks everyone, looks like the following is working for now (I have a Fritzbox 5590 DX):

Separte 2.4GHz network on a fixed channel (5 in my case)

Wifi 4 only (instead of the default Wifi 5 on the Fritzbox)

WPA2 (compatibilty mode) for the 2.4GHz network.
