My Edge 840 won't reconnect to wifi automatically

I've noticed recently that my Edge 840 doesn't reconnect to wifi. If I clear all wifi settings, then connect to my network it syncs fine. But after it turns off, once it wakes back up, it won't connect to the wifi network. It seems to be stuck in a "connecting" state but never connects. The only way to get it to connect is to delete the wifi network and then re-add it and it works again. This is of course not how it's supposed to work, and is a giant pita.

Any thoughts or ideas?

  • This isn't usually the case for me, but I recently had a wifi issue. I traveled and added a friend's wifi but the next day it couldn't connect. Then when I came home my usual one didn't connect. In both cases I had to restart the AP and re-add the network and it has since worked fine. The edge can only support 2.4 GHz networks, which your AP may turn off if unused, so try rebooting your router.

  • I have the same issue.  If I connect my iPhone to the 840 via BT, then go to Wi-Fi Networks|<network>|Test Network Connection|Connect, it will connect to my WiFi.  But if I have already connected my phone, then why would I need to connect to wifi?  I want it to automatically connect to my wifi without having to connect my phone!

Come on, Garmin - work on providing better software quality and stop letting your customers test it.

  • When you test connection via GC, it tells the device to do it. Wifi is mainly used for activity and course syncing (which I find BT does better -- quicker) or downloading maps. It's kind of redundant IMO. You can force a wifi sync from the device without your phone under "connected features"
