27.13 Edge 840 sync problems

Hello,

I upgraded my Edge 840 yesterday on version 27.13 and e viola, first ride this morning, first issues....

The ride is recorded on the device because I can see it in the protocol,  the device is properly connected to the phone, on the phone I can see the device is connected via the app. EVERYTHING seems to be fine, but whatever I am trying, the ride is not uploaded to Garmin Connect. Many restarts and sync attempts Bluetooth off and on ... nothing helped.

Is there any way to get back to the former version of the firmware?

Thanks

  • 27.14 FW is out. And yes, use USB and GE to sync.

  • Thanks for your Feedback.

Interestingly Garmin always manages to break something which was working before when they issue a new firmware.

According to the release notes 27.14 doesn't address something specific here, but I will try for sure.

    Thanks

  • 27.13 is certainly working fine for me, including sync. I've not gone to 27.14 yet but I can't see anything in that which would affect sync

  • I had the same problem and was worried that I had discarded my 100 mile ride on Monday. I tried forcing sync from the phone and from the Edge with no success. Then, I took a walk with my wife using my Fenix to track. After the walk, everything kicked through and my walk and ride showed up.

  • Same happening to me but it's one ride and all of a sudden nothing will move to Garmin Connect when syncing. Also Garmin Edge 840 and as per Garmin there is no way to usb into a Mac. They state in plain wording the MTB protocol will not work with MAC. I hope Garmin rectifies this...

  • Same issue here. MTB protocol used by Garmin does not support usb for Mac computers. Not sure what else to try. I have done all the syncing, closing, reconnecting tips I can find. Hopefully Garmin will rectify connecting to Mac.

  • "MTB protocol used by Garmin does not support usb for Mac computers."  Actually it does work.

First, quit Garmin Express and all MTB type of applications and software on the Mac. Then, with the 840 powered off, connect the 840 through its normal cable (USB-C that it came with). Wait a minute or two, this takes longer than it used to when it would show up immediately on the desktop; now it does not show up on the desktop. After a minute or two, the "eject" (upwards arrow) symbol appears on the lower right corner of the 840 screen. Now you can run Garmin Express and it connects and syncs etc. as it has in the past. The key is to wait until that "eject" symbol appears; if you don't wait long enough for that to appear, then when you run Garmin Express there will be no connection and no response. As for other Garmin devices, they will work as they did in the past unless they have the new software that the 840 has now. My older Garmin devices work like they used to, this is a new interface for some devices (the 840 for one) that Garmin has switched to, for those newer devices.

If you want or need direct access to the 840 as a storage device (to copy or remove files), this can be done with the free OpenMTP software that can be downloaded.

  • Same here. Takes me 20mins of trying to manually sync to get it posted after each activity.

  • I have the same syncing issues.  What has worked for me is the following:

    1. With the Connect app on my iPhone open, turn on the Edge 840.  Everything seems to sync fine.

    2. Go for a ride.

    3. End ride, save

    4. Turn off Edge 840

    5. On the iPhone Connect App, initiate the 'sync'  -- it will fail

    6. Close the Connect App

    7. Repeat Step 1 and the ride syncs with the App

  • Thanks, I use Android and it was enough to just turn on and off the Edge device, as annoying as that may be.
