Slow Startup

The more activities and courses stored on the Edge, the longer it takes to start. No need to keep them on the Edge since they are available on Garmin Connect.

Thanks, I knew, I had many courses and activities stored. I deleted some of the oldest, and the startup duration increased from 55s to 35s

Mine has a slow bootup too, and I have maybe a 6 course and a dozen activities on it after having done a full reset a couple of weeks ago. 

I'm using a 530 but assume a lot code is reused:

Reinstall the maps with Garmin Express, if currently possible. Garmin Express struggles in last days, so wait if the option is not available. If seen a much faster startup after re-install of already installed maps. I can only guess, maybe some kind of data fragmentation or cache.

Despite the devices have enough memory, regularly delete not required Courses and Tracks. Why?
* It makes the startup a little faster.
* I was told by the support to keep the device memory somewhat clean, it could cause instability and crashes/reboots. Since I do this it never failed again. Should't be necessary but it works now fine.

I use an Edge 840.

Before updating to 23.17, the boot time was 42 seconds. After the update, it was 63 seconds.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the maps (using West and Central Europe). I deleted all courses and activities. The boot time is now 42 seconds again.

When I bought the Edge with OS 9.xx, the boot time was 23 seconds.

With one of the last ( many mostly pointless) updates, the boot time got worse.

This is my experience.

I found over 200 activities in the activities folder. The edge only showed about 70 in the protocol history. I deleted them all and reseted the edge 840. Now it seems to boot a bit faster again.
