Actual Factory Reset including Maps

I'm looking for a way to fully restore my Edge 840 to the state it came in originally, including pre-installed maps (of Europe and NA).

Simply doing a factory reset and installing the maps via Garmin Express did not work for me for the following reasons.

In Garmin Express there is no single option for a map of Europe, but instead Europe is split into East, West and Central. After installing the three maps of Europe, there was not enough space left on the device to install the map of NA. This is a problem in and of itself, as I would like to have both maps installed like it was originally, but it also makes me worried that there is some useless stuff on the device that does not get removed by a factory reset.

Would it be possible to just copy the entire Garmin folder from a fresh device?

I think that latest map versions have more details than older ones so per km² more MB. Therefore Europe complete would be too big to install with US together. Just a guess. You can try to find the older europe.impg somewhere.

IDK. When I got my 840 2 years ago it had NA and EU maps. As soon as I connected it Garmin Express, there was a map update pending. It wouldn't download/install it saying there was insufficient memory. There was tons of memory, well in excess of the size of the maps. No matter, I had to uninstall the EU map to get the NA map to update.

I've got a step closer to resolving my problem. I've found a folder called "http" in my Garmin folder that contained a *.dta over 2 GB. The name of the file and the size suggested that this was an artifact of a map download that I had cancelled. The following thread confirmed this idea and so I deleted it without adverse consequences (for now).

Now I've made some space and could download the map of US, but still not enough space for entire NA.

I had the chance to briefly compare my Garmin folder to a friend's 840 and he had the same *.img files plus additional ones. Hence I think it is not due to larger size of my EU map.

It is beyond me how Garmin does not offer the option to do a true factory reset via Garmin Express. Everything about the Edge feels like we are stuck in the early 2000s.
