26.17 Grade, still, but I have come up with a solution for me

To no one's surprise, these computers haven't been able to report any semblance of even a close approximation of grade.  It has been this way from as long as I've had a 540 or 840 and I've seen it on three different devices.

The last few updates and betas have been some of the worst.

So, in the interest of alleviating my frustration, I came up with the only solution that will work reliably:

I've deleted the grade field from all of my activity profiles.  It is garbage data and I'm done trying to provide feedback.  If I wasn't so heavily invested in Garmin sensors and computers across all of my bikes, I'd consider exploring other computer options, but I'm stuck and deleting the field is the cheapest alternative.

  • I observed by now that, apparently, there are many IQ-apps around, where, most likely, volunteers write routines that calculate grade from more or less raw sensor data and even have customization as filtering etc.

The grade-% output of these IQ-apps is way much better than Garmin's native grade calculating routine.

I have no appetite to test al these IQ-apps, so what is the best I cannot judge. What I wonder is that, not knowing what the intellectual property rights of these IQ apps are - but some mention open source - why Garmin is not taking advantage of these nicely written apps and "copy with pride",  without screwing it up, the best code from these apps. Even against a fair compensation to the developer or a reward mentioning in the credits. Because, let's be honest: it should be Garmin's ambition level at least to meet or even outperform external volunteer program code!
