Edge 840 version 26.17, GPS broken

Hi,

recently I've upgraded firmware on my Edge 840 device to 26.17. Today, when going on a ride I did notice that the device is completely unable to acquire GPS signal. On the map, the position is displayed in a place where it was last used with a blinking "?" sign on the position arrow. There is no recording of the route I took. I tried the following to fix the issue, none did help:

- reboot the device

- connect and sync with Garmin Express

- restore factory settings

Is there any QC when releasing new firmware or is it driven by user reports? There are numerous issues with the software. Now I'm left with a device unable to do the basic, fundamental thing it is meant to do, which is navigation.

  • My GPS version is also 13.00. I have tried resetting multiple times and even cleared all data, but the issue still persists. I hope Garmin takes this issue seriously and provides a solution soon.

  • The German support team passed the matter on internally for analysis. A ticket was also created with our US colleagues.

Furthermore, the Garmin folder was requested from my Edge for analysis.

I hope I get a solution soon, as the device is useless.

  • <german> Da war ich schneller - siehe oben :-) </german>

Chatted to Garmin German Support this morning, pointing out that I'm not the only poor guy with a dead device. They are still awaiting the feedback from US. They won't provide any patch or .gcd without acknowledge of US :-(

  • German: Vielleicht helfen ja die mehrfachen Meldungen...

I also informed support that there are many other affected users. I also referred to this thread.

I spoke to a friend yesterday who told me about the Garmin beta program. Maybe we can get a different firmware through it.

  • I hope, not assume, that support is aware of the many affected users...

Admittingly, I am no ICT expert, but looking at the somewhat randomly affected users, Garmin might do something wrongly with  the memory management of their devices and conflicting routines steal each other's memory with the consequential crashes.

And, to be honest: firmware is an essential part of the product so, just as the hardware must function according to guarantee, the firmware must do as well. Beta software is nice for early adapters when new functionality is introduced to test, but beta software should never be another try to test the core firmware. I really wonder how the QA/QC functions at Garmin.

  • Hello everyone, I received an offer from Garmin yesterday to replace my device.

I have not received any further information.

I hope everyone else will also receive a satisfactory solution soon.

  • I have the same issue. Left with an unusable device at the moment

  • I have the same issue, I am left without a functioning device at the moment, Garmin please fix this.

  • Garmin Support still on mute in my case :-(

Just had the device connected again to Express - there's a new software 26.18. However, the GPS remains without finding the position, GPS software unchanged 13.00..

  • Any updates on this? I am having the same issue. Have been in touch with Garmin support who have asked for various info about software version, GPS version, etc. Also asked me to download a report from the device but it won't connect to Garmin express on my Mac (tried all suggested fixes). Have replied to them but still awaiting a response.

    Very annoying!
