Garmin Edge 840 does not connect to Garmin Express

I just received the device today. It synced with the Garmin Connect on my iPhone automatically and asked for software upgrade. Then I wanted to connect it with Garmin Express on my mac, but it won't find the device. I use the latest Garmin Express 7.24.0.0 and Software version 24.55 on the Garmin 840. I have other Garmin Devices connected to this machine OK, i.e. - Edge 830, Forerunner 920XT, Varia Bike Radar, and Garmin nuvi. All devices work OK via USB. Any idea what can be wrong with the 840?

  • Same here - Garmin support walked me through the standard process and then said it should work - and quit on it.  I’m very disappointed in Garmin here.

  • I would agree. There should be a level of *** reserved for companies/ppl, who blithely stop supporting something that used to work. I’ve been on the receiving end more than once from companies that pulled this. Microsoft, for all their faults, does a decent job of backwards compatibility.

  • Yeah, Garmin support was pretty worthless.  All they did was link me to all the stuff I had already tried from the Garmin website.  No help at all.

  • I hear you. I was disappointed with Garmin long time ago. My "workaround" was to ditch Edge 840S completely and move to a different device, Element Ace. It works and I don't have troubleshoot compatibility issues because Gramin's bad developers and support. Garmin is stuck in the early '90. If you're not a Windows user, or you don't want to have a Windows virtual machine with Paralles installed on your MacOS, forget Garmin. Garmin chose to embrace only Android, and this support is available on Windows but if you need it for MacOS, you must install a driver like MacDroid yourself and still it will not work always at your first attempt. It's a try and fail sequence until you find the optimal combination. Otherwise, either Mac doesn’t recognize your Edge 840 or Garmin Express freezes on a MacOS.
