ClimbPro shows non-existent climbs with ridiculous numbers

Hello,

Since I guess a few months both mine as my wife's Edge 840 shows non-existent climbs in ClimbPro, with ridiculous numbers such as 37.000m elevation (see picture) . In my last ride I should have ended up on the moon I guess.

The routes are made in Strava Routes and uploaded via bluetooth to the Edge 840. Anyone having a clue what could be the issue here?

  • @GerwinColje, thank you for opening a topic on this. I was about to do the same.

@aweatherall, I've also had this same issue for months. I also have a Garmin Edge 840. And one of friends also has this issue on his Edge 840. Another friend with a previous Garmin (I believe an Edge 830) doesn't have the issue.

To try and find out more I tried making different routes, also with different application:

    - None of the routes I made with Garmin Connect or with Komoot had this issue.

    - I live in the west of the Netherlands and every route I make with Strava that is at least partly in the west of the Netherlands has this issue.

    - With routes that are only in the east of the Netherlands this issues doesn't seem to show up. I also tried a couple of other places outside of the Netherlands, but I didn't find an other area that showed the same issue.

My best guess was that this issue was caused by Strava changing to a new route builder. I was hoping this would get resolved by Strava when they apply updates to this new route builder to get the initial bugs out. However, after couple of months this still isn't resolved.

  • Good morning,

Has Garmin adressed this issue after your ticket?

  • Was this problem solved? I have exactly the same problem on every ride since about 4 months I think. I’m riding in a completely flat area, creating routes in Strava and every single ride I have several totally non sensical climbs according to Climb Pro on completely flat sections. Setting the detection to cat 4 or cat 3 doesn’t make any difference.

  • Could you post the course file. The elevation data used by ClimbPro is coming from the course file you are using.
