elapsed time is not right

I have had a Garmin 520, 530 and now am using a 840, never had this issue before.

the problem is, I have Elapsed time as a data field on page 2 , but for some reason this seems to just do what it wants, if i start a ride at 8:30Am for example when I check at to see how long I've ben riding after around 2 hours I would expect to see a time of around 2 hours, but instead I often see something like 5 minutes but it is always different, sometimes it's ok sometimes theres a little number next to is and it's not right.

for some reason I opted into to the beta software when I got the 840, is this why it's not working? If so how do I get back to the normal software?

this is from last week, I had ridden around an hour at this point, I'd probably stopped for around 6 minutes?

yesterday I was almost home and I checked to see how long the ride had taken, I'd been riding solid for at least an hour at this point and I hadn't stopped or touched my garmin, but for some reason it was displaying a little 3 next to the "elapsed time", and was counting up from 4 minutes, as if something had triggered it to start counting 4 minutes previously. but what had set it off, I was just riding flat out for the last hour and never touched any buttons?

In your screenshot the tiny superscript 1 before the 06 minutes is the hours, silly I know but that’s how they show the hours.

ah I see. I've just noticed that timer data field shows HH:MM;SS, i'll use that one instead

If you also use a full width data field that will show the hour value full size.

Elapsed time and timer are the same, it looks like its HH:MM:SS at the start but once the timer sets off it's apparent the digits on the far right are milliseconds, and then they disappear after 10 seconds and just leave minutes and seconds, and after and hour the little 1 appears on the left, and the milliseconds also re-appear when it's paused and under an hour. so it has the capability of displaying all the info in a normal fashion there but it doesn't for some bizarre reason they choose not to do it.
